FileZillaConfig: Edit Config File & Users Settings Without Opening FileZilla Server

A while back, we brought you a guide on how to configure FileZilla Server to create personal FTP server in order to let your friends and family easily connect to your PC via FTP clients. FileZilla Server requires setting up Groups and Users features to categorize users into separate groups. You can set file access permissions for users who belong to a specific group, add new users to group, change username and password, and add/remove shared folders. Although FileZilla Server Interface provides a simple way to change the Group and Users related settings, it doesn’t provide a direct way to modify the file access permissions, add & delete users, and change users’ passwords, as one has to bring up the FileZilla Server Interface and then open Users panel to perform the said actions. FileZillaConfig is an open source application that reads Users settings from FileZilla Server.xml file and allows you to change file access permissions of any selected user. It even lets you add new users, view user’s group, remove shared folders and change users’ passwords. Details to follow after the jump. Read More

NetRoute – Use Network PC As TCP/IP Router To Achieve Server Load Balancing

There are certainly endless ways in which server load management techniques can be implemented on network. Before applying any of the techniques, system administrators have to consider the total number of nodes connected in the network, server response time, and in some cases, the rate of data transmission between nodes acting as member servers and main servers. In server-member server-client network architecture, load balancing methodologies can’t be applied unless we know how much data has to pass through routers and what type of response clients are seeking when data send and receive requests are made. Perform Network Throughput Test On Wired And Wireless Networks

Network throughput is measured as the average rate of successful message delivery over a communication channel. The data may be delivered over a link, or pass through a certain network node and is usually measured in bits per second, data packets per second or data packets per time slot. TamoSoft Throughput Test is an application for performing network throughput test on wired and wireless networks. The test is performed using a client server setup which requires at least two machines (physical or virtual, the former being more reliable for testing). The client connects to the server and sends TCP and UDP data streams while computing important metrics, such as upstream and downstream throughput values, packet loss, and round-trip time. The results are displayed in numeric and 3D chart formats. The available information can be saved as a bitmap or copied to clipboard for further review. Another good feature of this application is that it supports both IPv4 and IPv6 connections and can evaluate network performance based on the Quality of Service (QoS) settings. Read More

Apply Automatic Updates To Computers Offline With WSUS Offline Update

Windows Server Update Services (WSUS) is a server that downloads Windows Automatic Updates and deploys them via the network to other systems. This eliminates the need to apply automatic updates to each system individually. For example, if a large corporation has thousands of computers, it can be near impossible to apply selective updates to each system individually. Leaving the automatic update option enabled for each system will also choke bandwidth as thousands of systems will be downloading updates separately. A remedy to this problem is to make a WSUS server which updates all system even when they are not connected to the internet.
