It is a well-known fact that a vast majority of photos shared across various online services originate from the camera in some iOS device, but when it comes to recording videos with your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch, the camera is just as useful. Unfortunately, there aren’t as many apps for video editing as there are for photos, and that’s what makes TimeFreeze a really interesting addition to the App Store. The app lets its users add background music to their videos, and you can also make your footage looking like a snippet from the Matrix, by adding the slow motion effect to any area of the clip. Read past the jump for more.

The app is really easy to use, and guides you through each step of its usage in a comprehensive manner. The first thing you need to do to use TimeFreeze is to import a raw video clip to it. You can choose any video stored in the Camera Roll, or there is the option to shoot a video from within the app and then process it. If you want, you can also save the unprocessed (raw) clip to the Camera Roll, so that it remains possible to compare the changes the clip goes through.

When you are ready, hit the Next button in the top right. This brings up the the Slow motion speed menu. Here you will have to choose the value by which the chosen frames will be slowed down. The slider is calibrated in terms of seconds, and the higher this value, the slower the frames will be. If you want to accentuate the slow motion effect even more, toggle on the Double speed on rest option, which will make the slowed down portion of the video last even longer. The same menu has the option to choose the quality of the processed clip, and choosing a higher quality will increase the processing time quite a bit. When you hit the Next button on this menu, you are taken to the Slow motion range screen, asking you to define 2 frames which will act as starting and ending points for the slowed down portion of the video clip.

TimeFreeze currently has just 4 background music clips, and you can select the most suitable one for your video in the Sound menu. This menu is also useful if you want to omit the original audio of the video clip. By toggling on Slow motion effect, you can get the fuzzy look when the clip’s view shifts between slow motion and normal speed. After everything is done, TimeFreeze will take a few minutes to process the clip, and after that you can Play or save (to Camera Roll) the clip. The sharing option offered by the app include Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.

One limitation of TimeFreeze, which makes this otherwise brilliant app a little restricted, is the maximum output resolution currently standing at VGA only. While it may have been more than enough for smartphones in general, taking into account the iPhone 4S’ capable HD camcorder and A5 processor, the developer may benefit from handing over the resolution control to users, rather than putting cap on it.

I’m sure that everyone who uses the internet knows about, and has visited, YouTube a lot of times. Founded in 2005, it became a lot famous in quite a short amount of time, allowing billions of users to view, as well as share, videos with a global audience. Other than the widely used entertainment purposes, YouTube is also used for showcasing products, launching music videos and educating people. The application can only be accessed through a browser and does not have an official desktop application out yet. YTubePlayer lets you search and play videos directly from your desktop, listen to your favorite YouTube steams, directly play feeds, allows you to use your multimedia keyboard for changing videos just as you would with a normal music or video player, lets you create and manage multiple playlists, share playlists by sending them to other YTubePlayer users, etc.

When the application starts for the first time, it asks you to create an account with the service. Having an account helps you to create and manage playlists. Enter a Nickname and Password to complete the registration.

The interface of the application is really simple, with the playback, search and playlist controls on the top, Playlists and Feeds on the right, while the video plays between them.

The Search button at the top allows you to search videos for playing. You can also add videos to playlists directly from the search module without having to open them. Either click the video to play it, or select Add To Playlist button to add it to a user created playlist.

Playlists can also be shared with other users of YTubePlayer from the Share Playlist button at the top. To share one, select a playlist, enter the name and click Share. The playlists shared by other users appear in the YTube Inbox accessible from the top of the main interface.

The application supports both Window and Full screen mode for viewing videos. When in full screen mode, the video resolution can be changed from the top right corner.

YTubePlayer is a bit of a memory hog and consumes around 152 MB. It works on both 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7.

When it comes to video sharing and hosting, YouTube is the first service which comes to mind, but the fact of the matter is, YouTube is not the only service out there where you can watch and share video content. There are a few competitors in this field, and Vimeo is among the most popular YouTube alternatives. The team behind the video hosting service seems to have become pretty active lately. The Android app for Vimeo (covered in detail by us) was released just last month, and now Windows Phone 7 has got one as well. The official Mango app for Vimeo lets you do all the stuff you usually associate with the video service, and that, too, in a really efficient and convenient manner.

If you don’t have a Vimeo account, you can still use almost all areas of the app with ease. In case you want an account for the service, you can sign up for one for free, and the option is provided on the main page as well. The Welcome page of Vimeo presents you with a video to help get you started. That page also has the options to search and upload videos to the service. To upload, you will need a Vimeo account, of course. Vimeo Plus is a feature offered to those who have signed up for a premium account, and it provides a few extra features to users, like editing tools and more uploading rights.

With or without an account, you can start exploring Vimeo by going to the Explore section of the app. In that menu you will find a list of all the topics (along with a short description), and by tapping any of the categories, you will be taken to the dedicated page where all the Vimeo videos related to the chosen topic can be found. Within each channel, videos are listed based on the number of views they have got, or some of them might be staff picks, featured due to the quality of their content. The fashion in which the app lists videos is pretty metro-ish, while a list view is available as well in the Most Viewed section.

You can view comments related to each video by swiping to the right, while the menu for likes, credits and license information can be accessed from the respective options displayed beneath the video. The streaming speed is pretty good, and you can share video links via SMS, email or on your social network.

Vimeo is a free app, and really has the potential to give YouTube a run for its money, at least as far as WP7 is concerned. You can grab the app from the download link provided below.

Taking screenshots in games and creating screencasts for showcasing one’s gaming skills is very common among hardcore single player and multiplayer gamers. Due to the ability of gamers to take screenshots and screencasts, we have been able to share those ”Arrow to the knee” jokes. Previously, we have covered Taksi, an open source tool to take screenshots and record video clips of games and 3D-graphics applications. Today, we have another tool, called PlayClaw, that allows you to capture screenshots, record game video with multisource in-game and microphone audio, set recording frame rate and encoder compression etc. More on PlayClaw after the break.

The application provides you with all the basic settings to capture screenshots and record game video. It has multi-language support, including English, Dutch, French, Portuguese etc. You can set separate folders for saving screenshots and game videos, and specify hot key to show application settings during the game.

The Basic capture options window allows you to define hot keys for taking screenshots and starting/stopping video capture, change Encoder settings and specify Video file FPS. You can define multiple audio streams to record, and choose to mix sources in one track.

Even though the application takes great screenshots and record videos, in our experience, it made the game lag. Testing was done using the game Quake 3 on an i3 system running 64-bit Windows 7, Ultimate edition. This may, however, owe to the fact that our test machine did not have a dedicated graphics processor, and results might be different on other systems.

The application is available in both free and paid versions, and works on Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7.

To get started, you can either Shoot a Video or use one from camera roll. If you are gearing up to go through a lot of steps before you can see the result of your efforts, think again. You just have to point Magisto to the video, choose a soundtrack and everything else will be done automatically. Although Magisto can work with any video which is more than 10 seconds in length, it is advisable that the video clip you shoot or choose is at least 45 seconds long. You will have to wait a fair amount of time for the changes to be processed, but the wait is definitely worth it.

The tracks which are added to a video’s background can be chosen from your device’s library, or you can go for one of the songs available in Magisto’s sound categories. Sounds are categorized under genres like Hip Hop, Birthday and the like. Once you have added an appropriate title to the video, the app will work its magic, and you will have a complete, edited version of the input video within a few minutes. The end product can be shared via YouTube, email, Facebook and Twitter. Magisto will automatically detect people in the clip, and you can tag them as well. In addition to adding a soundtrack to the video, the app also adds some pretty cool effects to the it, like splitting frames and creating transition effects. However, it would be even better if you had some control over the addition of these effects.

Some days ago, we covered MediaHuman YouTube to MP3 Converter, a windows application that provides users with a simple interface to extract and download audio tracks from YouTube videos. It has a limitation, in that, it only allows you to download audio tracks from YouTube videos, forcing you to use a secondary application for downloading videos. yMule is an application that serves as a complete YouTube downloader, enabling you to search and download complete videos, as well as extract only audio from YouTube videos. It hosts its own search module that allows you to search videos using various filters, and download them as MP3, AVI, MP4 or FLV. More on yMule after the break.

The application has three tabs at the top; Search, Downloads and Wizard. Open the Wizard tab to download a video by pasting its URL. The Search tab has multiple filters to search for videos to download. You can Sort the search results by Relevance, Upload Date, View Count and Rating, list videos by Upload Date from Anytime, Today, This Week and This Month, and filter out videos according to Duration, including All, Short (around 4 minutes) and Long (around 20 minutes). yMule supports multi-tab search, and can only show HD videos and search for music. To download, choose the Download format from MP3, AVI, MP4 and FLV and double click on the required video from the search results.

The video will be automatically added to the Downloads tab, where it will be converted to the required format before starting download. You can Start/Stop the download, as well as Play downloaded videos.

Preferences window can be accessed from the File menu at the top left of the main interface. It lets you specify the Download Folder, Max Parallel Downloads and default Download Quality.

Vimeo is an award-winning online video sharing service with high-quality video content in its rich repository. Although the official iOS client of Vimeo has been available in the iTunes App Store for quite some time now, the Android variant has just been released to the Market. The news is surely going to please users of said service who, up until now, had to resort to unofficial Vimeo apps to access and share videos from their Android devices. The app provides the users with an option-packed dashboard that helps them instantly capture and upload their videos, search and watch all featured Vimeo videos, archive videos that they wish to watch later, keep a close tab on their subscriptions, detailed stats, personal profile and lots more. A good thing about the Vimeo app is that it does not require you to log in with the service in order to watch local as well as featured online videos. However, in order to access all features such as sharing, subscription and archiving videos for later, you must be logged in with a valid Vimeo account. Some time ago, we covered MediaHuman Audio Converter and MediaHuman Video Converter, a video converter that allows you to batch convert videos to a number of formats by providing you with a long list of presets to choose from. Apple never liked Flash much, and it pretty much won the battle in the end when Adobe officially said it would no longer develop Flash. However, that doesn’t mean everything else will automatically convert to HTML5 on its own, and YouTube is just one of those things that are frequently used by an overwhelming number of people. The main reason Flash remained forever banished from Apple’s products is that it was a power hungry, resource consuming platform, and though it may not have any newer versions, its current ones will continue to kill a fully charged laptop’s battery. MediaTube is a free Mac app that lets you search, view and download YouTube videos. While that description probably made you go ‘meh’, you might appreciate it more knowing that this app saves you from using Flash when you view YouTube in your web browser. The app itself presents a great interface, somewhat in likeness to iTunes; it lists recently viewed videos, suggests videos based on search trends when you type in the search bar, and can download a video in MP3 format.

Media controls, seek bar, volume control and search bar are all located at the top, while search results, recently viewed videos and related videos are listed in a panel on the left. Search results in the panel do not have thumbnail previews, and are also displayed in an iTunes library-like format just above the video viewer, complete with thumbnails. Click on any one of the results to play the video.

To search for a video, type in the search bar as you would normally type in YouTube’s search, and you will see suggestions based on trending searches.

The app has an excellent full screen view, as well. To switch to full screen, hit Command + F. You can see playback controls when you mouse over the lower part of the screen. Mouse over the top of the screen in full screen mode, and you will see search four tabs; Favorites, Search, Recent and Related. Select a tab to view videos from it, and the listed videos will appear in a horizontal panel just above the video that’s currently playing. The panel disappears when you move the mouse pointer away.

By default, the app lists 20 search results – 10 recently viewed videos and 20 related videos. You can change this from the app’s preferences.

To download a song as MP3, click Download in the System Menu Bar or hit Command + D to download the current video as MP3, but it will first require you to download YouTube to MP3 Converter by the same developer. The download feature probably isn’t what’s going to impress you, but the app’s interface, the full screen viewer and the fact that it lets you sidestep Flash and save precious battery on your laptop.

MediaHuman Video Converter allows you to add up to 20 video files at a time for conversion.

The Output Profile window lets you choose an output format from a long list, including Apple iPad, Apple, iPhone, PS3, PSP, Xbox, Wii, YouTube, etc. Each category has sub options, for example, Apple iPhone has iPhone High, iPhone Standard, iPhone Low, iPhone 4 High, iPhone 4 Standard and iPhone 4 Low as the available output formats.

The Settings menu has General and Output tab. The General tab includes options for naming new files and defining post-process operations, while the Output tab lets you specify the default output format and folder.

For testing purposes, we converted an 885mb file with both MediaHuman Video Converter and Oxelon Media Converter, and the result was as follows:

There are, no doubt, plenty of apps available for creating a video, and many of those allow you to upload your work directly to YouTube, but few offer you any video effects that aren’t there just for the sake of having a laugh. Moso is a Mac app that is altogether different; it not only comes with a large variety of graphic annotations for videos, but also has sound and custom annotations available, which means you can add text to an part of the video and have it appear for as long as you like in any order of your choosing.

The app isn’t just for making videos from spring break look funnier, or for amateur video bloggers. It allows you to add text and create an entire story line of when an effect should be applied. The app also has some pre-defined sound effects that you can add to your video, but many, if not all, are animal sounds, and aren’t of much use unless you’re going to sing Ole McDonald had a farm and upload it to YouTube (should anyone decide to do that, we’d love a link to it).

The first thing to do after installing the app is to make sure your camera is added properly. The app does auto detect webcams, but if it isn’t specifically set, the app will stop detecting the webcam after you’ve completed one recording. To add the camera, go to the Settings tab and click the Webcam button. Select a camera from the Webcam Settings dropdown, and set audio from the Mic Settings dropdown just below it. Adjust brightness, contrast and blur from the sliders on the right, and click OK to save.

Next step is to create a Storyboard, where you may choose to record a video using the webcam, or use images from your system and turn them in to a movie complete with animation effects and text. Click Storyboard and choose either Webcam, Photos & Videos or Sounds to create a new video, and drag it on to the blank bar just above the options.

If you want to add text to the video, go to Motion Text  on the Settings tab, select what kind of text you are adding and how you want it to appear. Type it in and you’re ready to start recording. Switch to the Studio tab to start making a video. Click the Record button and the app will countdown from 3 before it starts recording. You can choose to play music as a backdrop to your video, and from the effects dropdown, choose from over 27 different kinds of effects to add to your video.

Any and all text that you enter will appear on the Motion Text area just below the effects, and to make text appear on the video, select it and hit Enter.

Once you’re done annotating your video, click Stop to end recording. Review your video, and if you’re happy with what you have, post it. All videos you create can be seen in the Storage tab. To upload, select the video and click the YouTube button. Enter a title, description, chose privacy settings, enter your YouTube login and password, and click Upload.

The app has a premium version, where you can upgrade for $29.99 and enjoy video output in HD as well. For creating instructional videos, this app is exceptional.

From the team behind Camera360 for iOS comes Movie360, an app that lets you record videos with thirteen amazing real-time effects, and up to a length of two hours per clip.

The app’s interface is fluid and to-the-point. Select an effect from below and tap the record button to start shooting. The app allows you to switch to another effect in the middle of a recording. You don’t even need to pause to switch effects. Like in the stock Camera app, you can switch between front and rear cameras and toggle the camera LED (that is, if your iDevice has one).

The app has a good-looking built-in 3D browser that allows you to play and delete your recorded videos or copy them to the Camera Roll. The app can record videos in three levels of quality.The video quality is set to Low by default. To switch to High or Medium quality, tap the settings button in the top-right corner of the app. The settings screen also lets you set the app to auto-save clips to Camera Roll.

At High quality, the app records videos at a resolution of 480×360, which is much lower than the highest resolution at which certain iDevices can capture videos, but the results of the applied effects are, nevertheless, impressive.

Versatile video converters are hard to find, as the majority of freely available format conversion apps allow you to convert videos to common formats only. Once the app has analyzed the file(s) you’ve added, select the desired conversion format from the Profile dropdown. Formats are grouped as common video and audio categories, making it easier to pick out the right one if you are converting files to play on another device/platform.

Once you’ve set all conversion parameters, click the Encode button at the top of the app window, and wait for Any Video Converter Lite to finish conversion. Once conversion is complete, look for the file in the path you specified. By default, the app saves files to the Movies/Music folder.

To download a video from YouTube using this app, click the Download button next to the Add Files button. A new window will pop-up, copy and paste the URL of one or more YouTube videos and click Download.

Mac’s native media player, QuickTime Player, has a multitude of features, allowing you to do just about everything, from screencasting to publishing your videos directly to YouTube or Vimeo. While the application is rich in functionality, not everyone uses all those functions, and if you just want to watch a couple of music videos, tutorials or play songs from your library, a much lighter music player like MPlayerX might be more suitable. This Mac app does what you would expect of a media player; it plays audio and video files of practically every format (even Flash), but additionally remembers the last position a file was played at and reopens them at it. It can be used to stream live broadcasts, and unlike QuickTime Player, you can drag & drop a file onto an already open window to play it.

The app’s interface is simple, and media controls appear when you mouse over the app window. You can increase or decrease the player’s volume by scrolling the mouse wheel. A button on the top right corner of the app, with two arrows pointing in opposite directions, allows you to toggle between full screen and normal screen view.

To add and view a live stream using the app, go to File and select Open from URL…. Paste the stream’s URL and click OK, and the app will start streaming the video.

To adjust sound and video quality, go to Windows and select the Video Tuner and Equalizer options. Adjust the audio and video settings from the windows that open.

To quickly change which file is being played, drag & drop the file on to the app’s window. The app will remember the point where the current file was stopped, and will play the new one. When you play the first file again, it will resume from where you left it off.

MPlayerX isn’t a high end media player that you would use for video editing or broadcasting, but it is a good option if you want to play Flash videos and need a lightweight application for playing music.

VideoXplode is a video recording and sharing app for Android and iOS that provides users with three different project categories, namely Real Estate, Products and Automobiles, under which they can record and store short video clips of anything that can be best portrayed via multiple video recordings. The app’s interface is divided into Record, Projects, Share and Hint tabs. All the information pertaining to the app’s functionality is provided under the Hint tab.

To start capturing new videos, tap the Record tab, hit the Record new video button, select the required category and enter the project title. This creates a new/blank project under which you may start adding your video recordings. For instance, if your project is based on real estate, you can choose from various building segments including neighborhood, dinette, additional rooms, hallway and basement etc. Tapping on a category takes you to the recording interface. The recording interface displays a virtual spirit level (level indicator) in the top-right corner of the camera’s viewfinder.

Each clip under a Products and Automobile project can be recorded for a maximum of 30 seconds whereas this duration is cut down to a maximum of 20 seconds for all clips recorded under a Real Estate project. After each recording is complete, you can preview the clip, discard it, and mark the entire project as complete. To share the project, simply tap the Share tab and pick your preferred service. The app uses the videoXplode folder on your SD card to all store video files.

Last year, we reviewed Freemake Video Downloader, which is an eye-candy application for downloading and converting videos from popular websites. Since our review, this application has seen some major improvements, such as support for downloading videos from more than 10,000 websites. The video downloading and conversion procedure is the same as before, i.e. you copy a video’s URL and click paste to add the video to the downloading queue. One of the new features added to this application includes the option to resume broken downloads, ensuring that you do not have to restart the downloading process.

With the new download history feature, you can easily view a list of and play downloaded videos, open destination folder, URL (in browser) and delete history of downloaded files via right-click context menu.

Furthermore, Freemake video Downloader has provided a number of bug fixes. For example, issues that occurred with YouTube videos downloads and WebM audio extraction have now been fixed. Visual Search Pony is a duplicate file removal application for detecting and deleting duplicate videos according to space, duration, size, last modification time and resolution. What makes it unique from other duplicate file finders, is its ability to determine duplicate video files according to resolution and encoding differences. Visual Search Pony analyzes a file by running certain parts of the video (20 seconds or 5 minutes) to determine its attributes (such as duration, resolution, etc).

To get started, select a folder containing video files by clicking the folder icon from Source folders tab. Once selected, you can either directly click search to identify duplicate videos or go to the Options tab to configure additional search settings.

From the Options tab, you can select a detection mode and comparison time of 20 seconds or 5 minutes for analysis of each video file. The video files can be detected automatically or by resolution, duration, size or last modification time. After selecting required options, click Search. The videos within the selected directory will be analyzed according to defined time frame, and duplicate files will be listed in search result.

You can Play, Cut, Copy, Paste and Delete files via right-click context menu. If you would like to copy or delete only duplicate files, then choose Copy Duplicates/Delete Duplicates after selecting files from the list.

The application can help users efficiently remove duplicate video files to not only save disk space, but also to identify duplicate videos with inferior quality, low resolution etc. For example, you can filter out videos with low resolution after watching them from the search result. If you don’t get the time to organize the massive archive of camera photos and videos into folders, PictureSorter may help. It’s an open source application that sorts your images and videos by make and model of the camera, and the date they were taken on. The application has the ability to search directories recursively, and read EXIF data from JPEG images and THM (movies) files. Based on metadata, PictureSorter automatically organizes images and videos into a hierarchy of camera make & model, followed by date-wise created folders.

First off, select the folder where your unsorted images are stored by clicking Set Source Folder button. Now, click Change Destination to define the parent folder, and then click Scan to get a review of all the images and videos that will be copied to auto-created folders.

Just click the large Copy Files button to begin the process. Once the copying process is completed, check the Status column to view the files that have been successfully copied to target location.

You can access the newly created camera make&model –> date-wise folders from destination path.

The application sends individual notifications for each error it encounters during the copy process, which is actually very annoying, since you have to click OK every times it pops-up, to resume the process. We hope that the developer will replace it with post-process error reporting mechanism. PictureSorter works on Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7.

Private Video is an app for Windows Phone 7 which brings some much-needed area-specific privacy options to the Mango version of the metro platform. Most people aren’t big fans of the all-in-one password lock on WP7 which prevents anyone from accessing the phone through the lock screen. But not everyone requires the complete lockdown of their phone all the time. For instance, you might just want your Messaging hub to be password-protected while your friend plays Angry Birds on the phone. With Mango, these selective protection apps are finally making their way to the Marketplace (like the Content Shield app we covered a few days ago). Private Video is another example of this functionality. Using this free app, you can shoot videos that you want to store privately, under password protection.

There aren’t too many options in Private Video, but still, it does get the task done. The first thing you need to do to get started is set a new password. Don’t go looking for options to set it, just tap in a 6-character combination of your choice using the dialer displayed at the welcome screen of the app. You will be asked to re-enter the password after you have set it the first time.  The app, when launched for the first time, gives a detailed introduction to all its features, after you’ve set the password, of course .

Make sure you set a a password that you know you won’t forget, as there is no way to recover the saved videos from Private Video if you forget the password.

When the app is secured with a password now, you can begin shooting videos with it. Private Video allows you to keep videos saved in any album you choose to create within the app. It would have been cool if there were an option to import videos to Private Video, but sadly, that’s not the case. You can only secure videos that have been shot using the app. There is an export button in the app, but for now, it does not work. This functionality is set to be introduced in a future update. There is no limit as to the number of folders you can create in the app, or the videos that each folder can contain. Each video or folder can be deleted separately.

Private Video is an app which desperately needs an update to make it a little more flexible, but even as it is right now, it still probably warrants a download.

Usually people don’t give a lot of thought to the orientation of a video when shooting with mobile phone camera. What if you made a video of an important event and while viewing realize that you were holding the camera upside down? Free Video Flip And Rotate lets you change the orientation of videos with a single click. It has seven predefined video rotate and flip options; rotate 90 CW (Clockwise), rotate 180, rotate 90 CCW (Counter Clockwise), flip horizontally, flip vertically, flip vertically with rotate 90 CW and flip vertically with rotate 90 CCW.

This application is add-supported and it is recommended to uncheck Install the DVDVideoSoft Toolbar option during installation.

To begin, select the video you want to rotate from Input File available at the top of the interface. Free Video Flip And Rotate will automatically generate a new output file name. You can choose the type of orientation for the video from the buttons given at the bottom namely rotate 90 CW (Clockwise), rotate 180, rotate 90 CCW (Counter-Clockwise), flip horizontally, flip vertically, flip vertically with rotate 90 CW and flip vertically with rotate 90 CCW. The original video’s thumbnail will appear on the left side of the main interface, while the thumbnail of rotated and flipped video will appear on the right side. Once you’ve set up the orientation, click Convert to save the video.

Clicking Options button present at the bottom enables you to choose the application language, check for updates and select Shut Down the Computer if the process completed successfully option.

Free Video Flip And Rotate works on both 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7.

The application runs in the system tray, allowing access to different capturing modes by right-clicking its icon. The Settings menu lets you configure General options, Screenshot preferences like Default Image Format, Filename, Image Resizing etc., as well as Sharing Accounts, Video Capture settings and Advanced options.

Screenpresso comes with both a free and paid version. The free version has some limitations e.g., a cap of 15 seconds on video capture, and being able to edit the picture only once using Screenpresso editor. Also, the video capture in free version puts a watermark on the lower right corner of the video. Despite these limitations, Screenpresso offers a solid screenshot tool with comprehensive options even in the free version. It is a portable application and works on all 32- and 64-bit versions of Windows.

Denso is an iOS app for iPhone and iPad which lets users view videos without having to search for a particular topic. You may think of it as an online video magazine, but not quite. There’s a lot more to Denso than that. It not only supports offline viewing of videos, but also comes with the option to view and comment on videos from your Facebook and Twitter contacts. While browsing and viewing Denso’s catalog doesn’t require an account, downloading videos needs one. Creating an account is easy and simply requires your e-mail ID and a new password. After that, you can watch a video from one of the officially added channels, and by tapping “Watch later”, you can save the video for offline viewing. You can also view videos in full screen mode with Denso. Besides browsing the channels, you can also view videos in different categories like Sports, Comedy ,etc.

Probably the coolest feature offered by this free app is the playing of videos shared by your Facebook and Twitter friends. Not only can you watch them, you can also comment on those videos right from within the app. If you really like a video you see on Denso, there is of course the option to share it with your own social network.

How long does it take to record and share a very short video clip, in fact, multiple video clips with the world? How about sharing your clips on your Facebook Wall and Twitter timeline simultaneously? Well, if you’re talking about Tout – a video recording/ sharing app for iOS and Android – then it doesn’t take any longer than 30 seconds from grabbing a quick clip to posting it to your profile pages on both the aforementioned social networks. In addition, Tout also lets you share videos with your phone and email contacts. With Tout, it’s all about sharing your memorable videos with the world in an instant.

Based on almost the same concept as that of recently reviewed TJUNKS Video Camera, Tout allows recording and posting videos of relatively smaller durations on multiple social platforms. However, Tout is not new to smartphones. As mentioned earlier, an iOS variant of the app is already present in the iTunes App Store. What’s different with Tout (than its counterparts) is that it provides you with an option to queue up all your recordings and then share them all at once with as many contacts as you like without having to upload them manually, one by one. Plus, any sharing done via Tout is quicker than what most other alternatives have to offer.

A valid email ID and a password is all what Tout requires from you to join the fun. If you’re using Tout for the very first time, you’re prompted to record your very first video by tapping the tout tab (camera icon) at the bottom of the homescreen. For each recording that you wish to share via tout, you can add a relevant title and tag(s) and select from the available sharing options. The three tabs at the bottom of this screen let you delete, review and submit your video respectively.

Hitting the submit button doesn’t actually begin uploading videos but rather queues them up in a list.

On the app’s homescreen, you have also have a watch tab that can be tapped to view all the Updated, Popular and Today’s shared videos on Tout, reply to them, like them, share them and even ‘re-tout’ (much like re-tweet) them. You can also follow a user from within the same screen.

All your queued and shared videos as well as all the videos that you’ve touted via the app can be found under the my tab on the app’s homescreen. To view the queued videos, tap on the Queue button. Launching this screen automatically starts uploading your queued videos (if the automatic uploading option is enabled, that is).

In order to share content successfully, you must have both your Facebook as well as your Twitter accounts configured properly. Tout lets you pick cell phone contacts and contacts, and also provides you with an option to create a new contact by manually entering a name, email address and phone number.

During a brief test run, the app successfully managed to share our videos to Facebook and Twitter (and quite quickly too). However, it consistently refused to share anything at all with phone and email contacts. Furthermore, the app’s missing some very basic features, such as geo-tagging and option to keep shared content public/private, both of which are a norm in media sharing apps these days.

TJUNKS Video Camera is a cross-platform video sharing app for iOS & Android (with the BlackBerry client in the pipeline) that lets you record video clips and instantly share them with the other TJUNKS users from all over the world. Shared videos are streamed on the official TJUNKS TV website that can be accessed from within the app as well. TJUNKS Video Camera sports a wide range of features through which you can search for users & videos, comment on videos, get friend suggestions, follow others or be followed, connect to multiple social networking services, manage the TJUNKS Lifetime (validity period of your recordings on the server) and lots more.

Using your Facebook and/or email account, you can sign up with TJUNKS service for free. Share your videos with an expanded network of friends by connecting your Twitter, Foursquare and Tumblr accounts with TJUNKS Video Camera.

When launched for the first time, the app takes you to the video recording mode straightaway, so that you can record your very first clip and announce yourself on the TJUNKS network by sharing it with the world. The app lets you capture clips up to 30 seconds long. Press the red REC button to start recording. Once recording is finished, the app takes you to another screen from where you can replay your clip, retake a fresh one, view your location, enter a relevant title for your video, pick a social networking service to share it on and eventually, hit UPLOAD. Upload progress can be monitored from the status bar notification.

Looking at the app’s homescreen, we find that the TJUNKS Video Camera app is all about five main tabs namely TV, REC, Feed, Feedback, Recorded and More.

From the Feed tab, you can view videos shared by other TJUNKS users. Tap on a user to follow him/her and to view all their shared videos along with the comments and detailed stats for each clip.

The Recorded tab contains all your video recordings whereas the Feedback tab contain responses of other users on your shared content. The TV tab launches TJUNKS TV and streams shared videos from all across the globe.

The settings menu can be accessed from the More tab. From within said menu, you can toggle the add Video location option, manage the password and various notifications for new videos, comments, forwarded videos as well as for your new followers.

TJUNKS Video Camera is not a bad companion at all to have with you while you’re out on a vacation or wish to share the video clips of the newborn with your grandparents.

You can edit what you tweet before sending it out. The service by default checks you in to following them on Twitter. Do with it what you will and click the blue Twitter birdie to send out the Tweet.

Anyone who clicks on the link will be able to view the video without signing in to the service. The service also tells you how many times a video has been viewed.

The concept is to ensure that each supported item on your PC is secured, tagged, and available from within a unified interface. The application has been written to solve both generic and complex item cataloging issues, such as, untagged items, inefficient search and filter features, tag synchronization across all like items and so on. Daminion lays a staunch foundation for users to seamlessly organize their multimedia files without having to manually manage their files, filter media file types, input meta tags, rate files, etc.

Talking of search features, it lets you find multimedia files by a wide range of file attributes. You can initiate search from within a specific category and filter image, video, documents, and audio files by rating, comment, date and time stamps, event, place, bitrate, camera model, media format, ISO and numerous other file attributes. This not only helps you quickly find the files from a huge multimedia collection but also organize the file sets in a required way. For instance, using the built-in Save Search feature, you can organize file sets by title, authors, date/time stamp, label, etc.

Since the focus is only on image, audio & video, you can choose to specify external editing programs to quickly make amendments to your files. Once defined, it will open the file in respective application. The left sidebar holds the commonly used tags for multimedia files, such as, Media Format, Rating, Camera Model, Place, etc. It lets you further refine tag selection by allowing you to choose sub-filters. For instance, if you’ve added PNG and JPEG image files to Daminion repository, it will allow filtering the Media Format tag group by JPEG and PNG. Clicking PNG will show all respective file types and same is the case with other included image formats. The main window displays your multimedia content, arranged by selected tag group. When the item is selected, it shows file properties in right side bar, allowing to edit the file properties and add color labels. By default, it renders each media file and shows thumbnails. However, you can change view to File List, which helps you view files with their labels and complete meta information.

Apart from organizing all the files from different location, you can selectively manage items by filtering the list by source path. Just select the source path or disk from Folder tag category to view all the files from the selected source. The right-click context menu lets you compare items side-side, view item in full-screen mode, edit the file with defined application, set rating, add color label and so on.

The file comparison feature works in fullscreen mode. Attributes of both files are shown with a side-by-side preview to identify the differences. You can play two audio tracks, view similar images, and play videos having same title to decide which one has to be removed from the catalog.

The basic and advance search is accessible from main window. From Advanced Search, you can use AND/OR logical operators to narrow down search criteria while option to append different file attributes to current search is also available.

Since it has the ability to read meta data in various formats, you don’t have to depend upon different API versions of other systems. The extensive Export feature supports optimization for various online and offline platforms. You can optimize your image files for Facebook (1000px) and insert optimized images into PowerPoint presentation.

Daminion stores the additional file information along with labels and tags to file meta data, so they can be easily identified on other systems. The Settings folder can be accessed from remote locations; you just have to make it available on any shared location where others can access it. Changing the primary settings folder to remote location lets your team fetch tags and file information of catalog directly without having to follow tedious export and import procedure. You can either create a new shared catalog from File menu to share your files tag information and other properties or open an already shared catalog from specified location. The New Shared Catalog feature needs source client address to be specified to directly read, view and edit multimedia files, meta tags, and other associated attributes.
