It can be quite frustrating for a user to find broken links while browsing through a website. The problem is that over a period of time a website is bound to suffer from broken links. This can be due to website content deletion, careless tagging and hyperlinking, failure of website components (e.g. a widget) and the like. Broken links can result in loss of visitors, search engine ranking, revenue, and can greatly damage a website’s reputation. For this reason it is necessary for webmasters to check their website for broken links on regular basis. LinkChecker is an open source broken link checking tool which checks a specified website or webpage for broken links.
Just enter a website or web page URL and click Start to initiate the scanning process. It must be noted that checking for broken links can take a very long period of time if your website has a lot of pages. When a link is scanned, the result section displays information about broken links found (if any), valid URLs and warnings.
The URL can be viewed online, copied to clipboard and a parent source can be checked from URL right-click context menu. Apparently, one might see a lot of errors when the scanning process is completed, however, many a times this can be due to your website’s security settings. Nonetheless, an experienced webmaster is likely to be able to easily identify actual broken links and errors on his/her website.
