Calling Facebook friends is now as easy as ever, you can directly call a Facebook contact if he/she has added a phone number to a Facebook profile. In this post we will provide a detailed guide regarding the use of Facebook features in Skype 5.5

  • Facebook Feed Integration

When you log into the all new Skype 5.5, one of the most obvious change which you will notice is the Facebook tab. This tab contains your your Facebook feed which expands into side by side horizontal stacks, as the Skype window is expanded. Interestingly, the more you expand the Skype window, the more side by side horizontal feed blocks appear.

  • Facebook Chat integration

One of the most useful additions to Skype 5.5 is the ability of Skype users to chat with Facebook contacts via Skype. This provides the utility to chat with both Skype and Facebook contacts simultaneously, without the need of visiting Facebook using a browser.

Friends List

One feature of Skype 5.5 which has definitely improved Facebook chat is the system tray notification, which alerts you when one of your Facebook contact is online. These notifications also appear when you log into Facebook chat via Skype.

  • Window Separation Option

For better identification of your Facebook feeds and chats, you can switch between Compact and Default view by clicking on the button highlighted in the below screenshot. The default view separates the chat window and the Facebook feed so that you can monitor them separately. Clicking on the same button enables you to combine the two separated windows (Compact View).

I recently installed Skype 5.5 beta and one VERY annoying feature is the Huge skype home windows that pops up separately from the skype main window (I use compact view). From what I can see… there is no way to disable this window from popping up every time I start skype.

It seems skype has a habit of forcing this to show without giving the option to disable or permanently hide. I just did some testing and I see that if you have the default view selected, the window does not pop up… it’s just to the right side of the main (larger) window. However, if you use the compact view, a larger second window is forced to opened up every time you start the program..

    Why Skype….. WHY????
