We have reviewed some disk analysis and management tools like FolderVisualizer and DiskFerret Lite. Although these are good tools for analyzing and managing your hard disk, how about a tool that can provide many additional functionalities?
DiskBoss is an advanced file and disk management tool which can provide disk analysis, detect and remove duplicate files, organize files according to defined rules, work as a trace eraser, synchronize disks and directories, remove junk and duplicate files. Disk Boss has both a free and paid version. The above tasks can be done with the free version, whereas the latter provides some additional plugins to further sort and classify your hard disk files and view disk changes in a graph.
The first time you launch Disk Boss, it provides some options to refine the way you wish to use it. For example, you might hide file extensions, exclude protected operating system files from the analysis list and view a file deletion confirmation box when disk cleanup is completed. Select the options that you wish to include and uncheck any that you wish to exclude from main functionality.
To analyze a disk, search for duplicate files or for organizing files by pre-defined rules, choose the appropriate option from the right-click context menu. The Disk Change Monitor and Classify and categorize option is not available in the free version. These options allow further sorting files b categories, e.g. media files, system files, etc.
For example, you can right-click on a drive (e.g. C Drive) and choose Find Duplicate Files to start locating clone files.
After the operation is complete, you will be shown a list of the clone files that can be deleted.
You can also save this information to a file via the Save button and view the selected information in charts. This way, you can get a detailed overview of the file types and space consumption of your hard disk. You can also print the chart and copy it to clipboard for pasting it onto another application for further analysis. You can change the chart type and sort information by extension types from the menus at the bottom of the chart.
Clean junk files, select a disk and click on the Cleanup button from the top of the main interface. This will analyze the disk and provide you with details regarding the available file types that can be removed.
Once the analysis is complete, you can select the file types to delete, as well as choose a clean up method to securely erase file traces from your hard disk. For example, you can delete temporary files with a five pass cleanup method to ensure that they are not recoverable.
You can even use Disk Boss to Synchronize folders or entire drives via the Sync button from the top of the main interface. To sync data between drives or directories, choose a source and destination path and click Sync.
Disk Boss is a comprehensive disk management tool that works on Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7.
