Windows Aero is a  hardware-based premium visual experience or graphical user interface that is implemented in Windows Vista, which includes effects such as transparent glass design, subtle window animations, animated cursors, new window colors and eye candy. Aero is actually acronym for Authentic, Energetic, Reflective and Open. Windows Vista’s Aero effects are quite pleasing but when you’re trying to squeeze the last bit of power and life out of a battery, or just running some memory-hungry stuff, you don’t always need them.

To create a toggle right click option menu for enabling and disabling Aero effects as shown in screenshot below, follow these simple steps.

click

Run Registry Editor by typing regedit on Start Search in Start menu.

run

Navigate to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\Background\Shell

location

Right-click the Shell part, select New > Key and name it Aero On.

new

Right-click the Aero On key you’ve created, and create a new key called command.

command

Double-click this (in the right-hand side of the screen) and give it the value Rundll32 dwmApi #102.

value

Right-click the Shell key again, select New > Key, and name it Aero Off.

aero off

Create a command key below it, as you’ve just done, and give it the value Rundll32 dwmApi #104

aero off command

Now, right-click an empty part of the desktop to see your options, and select Aero On when you want fancy effects like Flip 3D, and Aero Off when you’re after raw speed.
