Along with managing image repository, it offers blazing fast search speed by using multiple search criteria and meta information like, EXIF,IPTC, and GPS. Although the application mainly offers image database management, it comes with an image editor as well with extensive feature set while supporting other professional image manipulation suites including Paint Shop Pro and Photoshop. The application is also accompanied with basic selection tools to let users select and edit an image in a required shape. The image database allows anyone to keep their image catalog organized without having to specify image folders over and over again.
As far as image conversion is concerned, it not only offers image conversion into different formats but lets you export image in PDF format, so you can easily create your own photo books. The application interface is laid wide across the screen with all the major features listed at left and right sidebars. The main window shows a set of images from the selected library/folder. File explorer is present to let users easily sift through image folders while the right sidebar holds search bar with category section and photo rating box.
All images from selected image repositories are listed in the bottom pane. To zoom in/out more easily, it offers an image navigator right beneath the file explorer. On the main screen, you can switch between image viewer and advance search window. Editing tool along with other basic image-specific options can be accessed from underneath the image.
The image being edited can be previewed live with an option to revert all the changes back with a single click. In image editor, you will see available editing tools at left sidebar while selection tools are present at the top lane.
Since performing same set of operation over images manually is a quite a wearisome task, it allows user to perform batch operations over selected image database. You can, for instance, resize, rotate, flip and watermark your images in a snap.
Creating and maintaining image catalogs is easy, all that is required is to specify folders and images files which are to be indexed into its database. If you’re dealing with different kinds of images, separate database can be created to organize each type of image catalog.
All in all, Kestral is a great image editor, converter, and manager rolled into one simple-to-use app. Photographers looking for image database management tool supporting multiple types of formats with a blend of basic image editing features should consider giving it shot.
