Photo viewers stand at the very top of our favorite Windows applications, the prime reason being their frequent usage. Being a photography fan myself, I love to view my snaps the way they are meant to be seen. For that matter, an elegant and ergonomically-friendly photo viewing software plays an essential role. I have come across numerous image viewers around the internet – both fancy and simple ones – but only a few actually left an impression on me. From those that I found quite enticing, Photo+ definitely holds its own place. Developed by ArcSoft, this tool is nothing short of a marvel. It’s semi-opaque black glass-like user interface simply looks stunning, and it renders and displays your photos in vivid bright colors. What’s astonishing about this image viewer is instant photo sharing to your Facebook, Twitter and Flickr profiles, everything from within the application. What’s more, while browsing through your photos, you can instantly add your most liked ones to your Favorites list – simply by pressing spacebar on your keyboard. In addition, you can also enjoy your photos as slideshows and full screen mode.
Photo+ supports a wide array of image formats, including JPEG, BMP, TIFF, PNG, PSF, TGA etc. It also enables you to view RAW image files from a number of camera manufacturers, such as Canon, Nikon, Sony, Epson, Olympus, Panasonic and so on. After installation, the application automatically asks you to associate your preferred formats with the application itself. While viewing photos, it displays side arrows to move between your photos (you may also use keyboard arrow keys). It’s good to see that the image viewer supports mouse scroll wheel for zooming in/out the photos. At the bottom edge, it contains navigation controls for zoom, next and prev, slideshow, image scaling, select, delete and full screen toggle. As I stated earlier, the application also allows instant sharing of photos to Flickr, Facebook and Twitter account. You may both share a single photo or a batch of photos in one go.
Simply click Share button on the navigation controls and choose your desired website. For instance, should you want to share photos on Facebook, select Facebook and then input your user name and password, followed by granting the app required permission. Once done, you can input your Album Name and Description, and specify privacy level of your photos, before clicking the Share button at the bottom right.
One of the features that made me and instant fan, is instantaneously adding photos to Favorites. While viewing any image, simply press spacebar and it will move to My Favorites. You can add as many photos as you like and from within your Favorites, you can instantly save all of them into a separate image folder or share them online.
Overall, Photo+ is an absolute stunner. It not only looks good, but is also quite user-friendly. Even though I generally use Picassa, I may make a switch to Photo+ any day. The application works on all operating systems from Windows XP through Windows 8. Testing was carried out on Windows 7 Ultimate, 64-bit.
