Picasa is a popular service from Google, which users all around the world use every day to upload, edit, and then share photos with their loved ones. PicasaExt is one of those rare gems that will come really useful to the loyal users of Picasa. It is a small plugin that integrates Picasa in Windows Explorer. Images that are starred in Picasa, i.e, made favorites, are now displayed in Windows Explorer as well. A small star overlay is displayed on every image that has been starred in Picasa.
We know that Picasa has a desktop app for Windows but PicasaExt does what the official app cannot do. It is an extension to the functionality of the orginal Picasa application. So how does it work? According to the developer, it simply reads the .ini files that Picasa uses to store information. It does not ask for access to your Picassa account, nor does it ask you to login to any of Google services, which makes it safe to use provided you are uncomfortable giving out your personal details to third party apps.
As you can see in the screenshot below, it not only adds a star overlay to photos in large icons, but also to the icons in list view. When you open or save an image, you will be able to see the photos that are starred.
PicasaExt works on Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7. Both 32-bit and 64-bit versions of OS are supported. You will need to restart the computer or log off and log back in before noticing the change.
