Record Skype Voice Calls

In one of my previous post, we discussed how you can easily and quickly make a Skype call without installing a desktop client. But if you are looking to record a conversation then the desktop client is obviously required.

iFree Skype Recorder is a free utility that can record any conversation on Skype. It has both Automatic and Manual recording capabilities. It can record three types of voice calls – Skype2Skype calls, Skype In/Out calls, and Conference calls.

What is actually useful is the fact that it allows user to select which side to record. You can either record both sides, only record your own side or record the remote side. All calls are stored in Mp3 format using the Lame Mp3 Encoder. There is also an option to keep track of record history and has a build-in audio player for that.

The usage is quite simple, just run the app and it will detect the Skype calls. Once detected, Allow Authorization in Skype and it will begin recording.

Mp3 Quality can be selected from under the tab of the same name in Options. You can select the Recording mode, bit rate and sample rate.

It works on Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows Server 2003/2008, and Windows 7. It is a totally free utility that actually works and doesn’t come with spamware.

Update: For more, have a look at VoiceGear Contact Alerter and Maxa Notifier for Skype.

Was this posted at the right time or what! Thanks for the tip. After reading a dated article on the myriads of shareware recorders and add-ons, this tip just made my day.
    Uncanny timing… :-)

Mac Users can record Skype calls with Garage Band and, I think, Soundflower and LineIn. That's quite simple, just use Google and you will find some tutorials.

But good Windows Tools for this purpose are rare, so thank you for this great tip!
