ConTEXT Serves As Secondary Programming Text Editor For Software Developers

Previously we covered number of text editors having advance features and tools, such as; Fxite, World Wide NotePad, and EditPad, all these text editors are primarily coded for end-users. ConTEXT is another advance multi-lingual text editor, having innumerable features, tools whilst supporting a long list of languages for syntax highlighting. According to the developer, the reason behind its development is to serve as a secondary tool  for software developers, who need a text editor supporting programming languages with all development related tools build-in.

The application supports HTML, Visual Basic, Perl/CGI, SQL, 80×86 assembler, Python, PHP, C#, C/C+, CSS, SQL, FoxPro, Java, and many other programming languages syntax highlighting (complete list of features can be seen here).  The main interface has  navigation bar, main editing window, and a output console to view results while on the go. The extensive toolbar lets you manipulate the basic text editing while for advance features you can always access respective menus.

Out of many useful features, Macro is significant because it can save you a lot of time. From Tool menu, you can record, play and manage macros along and run user-defined commands. Furthermore, you have an option to compare two supported files, just click compare and specify the files to be compared. You can also compare the file which is being edited with any supported file. Statistics brings all the information related with the current document. You can manually set language highlighter and convert text to UNIX (LF), Mac (CR), etc.

Another option worth using is native project workspace support. You can start a new project from the scratch, save it in its native CPR format, and then manage all the related files under a project brand. All Project related options can be opened from Project menu.

The application is highly customizable, not only can you tweak with editing options, but also customize syntax highlighting, add a new syntax, export registry settings, add/remove file associations, customize color printing, manage bookmarks, and much more. It runs on all versions of Windows, testing was done on Windows 7 x86 system.
