HDShredder – Wipe Clean Your Hard Drive

Suppose a situation where you need to sell your computer or your external hard drive. You must note that simply formatting your drives will not remove your data. I have said this before and I will say it again, you need to overwrite previous data sector with junk data in order to make your files irrecoverable.

HDShredder is a free portable tool that allows users to completely wipe clean the hard disk or any external hard drive so that all previously stored files will become irrecoverable. It securly cleans it and makes sure no data is left behind. The free version doesn’t allow you to clean the partition, but has the option to completely clean the whole hard drive.

Just run the program, choose Drive and hit Next.

It will detect and list all drives and their types, hit Next, choose the deletion method and options to wipe clean the hard disk. Once done, it will erase all data from the drive.

Once the operation is complete, you can then confidently sell your hard drive or share it with your friends without having to worry about the privacy. Ofcourse we don’t fall in this situation frequently, but when you do it is better to be on the safe side.

It works on Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Server 2003/2008, Windows Vista, and Windows 7. Enjoy!

A simple format (fill with blanks) is enough.

Why bother? Darik’s Boot and Nuke (“DBAN”) is also free, does more, and has been around for years.

But is that even necessary? Even the experts agree that a simple zero-fill reformat is more than sufficient.
