Install CyanogenMod 7 Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread ROM On Motorola Defy

Although Motorola has barred complete control of their majority Android devices with encryptedClipboard01 bootloaders, but the hacker community always comes up with a work around. Lately Motorola Droid X got crumbs of CyanogenMod 7 Gingerbread and now the good news is that Motorola Defy gets it’s share of CM 7 as well. Senior XDA Member and Android developer Quarx has been working on porting CM 7 on Defy for quite some time, and now there is a build available. According to initial testers and ROM Developer, these are the features that currently work on this CyanogenMod 7 build for Motorola Defy:

  • Wi-Fi Connectivity
  • 3D Acceleration
  • SD Card Mount
  • Auto Brightness Control
  • H.264 Video Camera
  • Bluetooth
  • GPS / aGPS
  • Stock FM Radio App
  • LED
  • Camera
  • GSM / 3G

It’s evident that most of the features that are termed as “every day drivers” are working. Currently 720p Video recording and WVGA photo capture aren’t working but future released might come with a fix. You can download CynogenMod 7 Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread for Defy from here and then head to the official XDA thread for instructions, FAQs and drivers.

For your convenience, here are the ROM flashing instructions direct from the ROM chef:

1. Flash fixed SBF 177-Nordic
2. Copy *.zip to sdcard
3. Reboot your device in BootMenu/ClockWork
4. WIPE (wipe data/factory reset + wipe cache partition)
5. Install the *zip
6. reboot

Please note that this build has a RC 0 tag which means that things are currently far from stable. Make sure that you follow the instructions closely because you can end up with a brick even with one wrong move.

Don't miss this great deal
