Microsoft Teams: Mac installation and set up guide

Microsoft Teams is a Microsoft product but it does not limit users to any specific platform. It has a very capable web app that allows you to use most features that you can get with the desktop app and it has desktop apps for both Windows 10 and macOS.

The macOS app, like the Windows 10 app, is free to download. You only pay for the Microsoft Teams subscription/license, or you can use Microsoft Teams for free all with the same app.

Microsoft Teams Mac – Mic and camera set up

Now that you’ve signed into Microsoft Teams, you will eventually have to make an audio or video call. The calls are easy to make but since you’ve installed the app fresh, you will need to allow it to access the webcam and the mic. It’s best to set both up before you have to enter a call and you can do that by making a test call.

  1. Open Microsoft Teams.
  2. Click your profile icon at the top right.
  3. Select Settings.
  4. Go to the Device tab.
  5. Click the Make a test call button.
  6. You will be prompted to grant the app access to the mic and webcam.
  7. Click OK.

Conclusion

Installing Microsoft Teams on macOS is almost as simple as installing it on Windows 10. The only difference is the added step of allowing the app to use the mic and webcam. On Windows 10, permission is granted when you install the app but on macOS, the permission prompt appears for the first time when you try to use the webcam and/or mic with the app. Other than that, every aspect of the Microsoft Teams macOS app is the same as the Windows 10 app.
