Download VidCoder 1.0; Now Out Of Beta And More Stable

VidCoder is a famous open source DVD/Blu-ray ripping and video transcoding application that uses HandBrake  encoding engine and is considered to have a much easier-to-use user interface than HandBrake itself. We reviewed the initial version when it was released, and later when it added Blu-ray support. Today, VidCoder ended its beta stage and a stable package was launched (version 1.0). In this post we will take a look at some of its new features which have made it even better than before.

The recent updates of VidCoder have added support for Sleep, Log off and Shutdown of the computer after the completion of the encoding,  DTS-HD pass-through, Dynamic Range Compression (DRC) support, and an additional shortcut for opening recent sources.

As VidCoder uses the HandBrake engine, there have been updates on the footing of HandBrakes new version. For this reason VidCoder has now moved encode progress bar and ETA down to the bottom of the window, updated to HandBrake SVN 4167, the XmlSerializers are now pre-compiled, which has resulted in faster performance and elimination of some crashes. Other changes include updated metadata storage to use the sqlite DB, an added splash screen, and a number of bug fixes.

It must be noted that VidCoder does not require HandBrake to work, it is an independent application which just uses the HandBrake engine. VidCoder works on Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows Server 2003 and Windows Server 2008, provided you have .Net Framework 4.
