It happens from time to time that we mistakenly delete the Recycle Bin icon from our desktop in Windows 7 or Vista. You probably came here after tirelessly searching for a way to recover/restore the Recycle Bin icon on the desktop. Many users prefer having Recycle Bin on the desktop and Microsoft agrees. This is why Windows now always comes with Recycle Bin on the desktop. The good news is that it is very easy to restore it using Windows built-in feature.
Note: This quick tip is for beginners who are new to Windows 7 or Vista.
First, right-click on your Desktop and choose the Personalize option from the context menu.
You will be taken to the Appearance and Personalization window. Now on the left sidebar, click “Change desktop icons”.
This will take you to Desktop Icon Settings. Here, you have to check the Recycle Bin checkbox and click OK.
Now you will see the Recycle Bin icon will be back in your desktop.
Another technique is to use Start Search in Start Menu. Simply type desktop icon and you will find a setting named “Show or hide common icons on the desktop”. Hit Enter and it will take you to Desktop Icon Settings window directly.
Personally, I always prefer searching from the Start Menu since it helps me efficiently jump to any settings window. Apart from Recycle Bin, Windows also provides you with options to enable (or restore, as some users would call it) Computer, User’s Files, Network, and Control Panel icons.
