GrooveWalrus is a freshly-baked standalone music player which offers support for two widely used online music services – Last.fm and Grooveshark. Since many users from around the world largely prefer listening and maintaining music profiles in either of these two services, it brings both in small package with all essential playback controls. The on-the-fly search for music tracks is also integrated to help users with populating their playlists quickly. While allowing direct last.fm scrobbling, you can bring all of your saved tracks and recommendations right into the application and manage your last.fm profile accordingly.
The application itself is highly-extensible, it comes with some interesting plugins, such as, Flash to play music from Dizzler /GrooveShark, Lyrics to view lyrics of song being played, and Web Remote plugin to remotely control its function over web. Before you begin searching tracks, head over to Options tab and enter last.fm account credentials to let it list down your playlist, here you can also toggle scrobbling On/Off.
From Collection tab, you can specify local folders where your music archives are residing, you can also select specific tracks to list them in your main playlist which also includes tracks from provided services. Plugins comes with hotkey support, which once enabled, can bring up any plugin by using designated hotkey combination.
Since GrooveWalrus in its infancy, you will probably find some available features not fully-functioning. Versions for both Windows and Linux OS platforms are available, testing was done on Windows 7 x64 system.
