How To Create A Secure Locked Folder In Windows XP

We come across situations when we need to lock our folders to insure that the files, videos or images are protected. Today I will help you to ensure that you can secure data on a local Windows PC without the need for any sort of expensive software. This procedure involves using just notepad, with it we’ll create a batch program, this Batch program can be used to lock a single folder and unlock it respectively.

I will show you how to securely lock you folder in few simple steps.

Suppose you want to secure lock the folder ‘Data’ in E, with the path E:\Data

In the same drive, create a text file and type, “Ren data data.{21EC2020-3AEA-1069-A2DD-08002B30309D}

Save this text file as loc.bat, after saving the file the icon will change to something as shown in pic below.

Create another text file in the same location and type in it, “Ren data.{21EC2020-3AEA-1069-A2DD-08002B30309D} data”

Save this text file as ‘key.bat’

Now you can see that you have a folder to put your documents inside and 2 batch files, the file ‘Loc.bat’ will be used when you want to encrypt the folder and turn it to control panel shortcut, the other batch file ‘Key.bat’ will be like a key to decrypt the folder back to normal.

These two files should be kept some where “safe” like in a USB stick or probably somewhere deep in your hard drive. I hope this helps, feel free to ask any questions in comments.

    I want to know how the folder will be protected by just creating 2 .bat files. b’cos i am not able to do it.

  • abdullah, we will update this post. For those who lack technical skills, we will soon write an alternative software through which it will be more easy to lock a folder.

    you can crack it by using the CMD or if you copy it to another Directory it will lose its properties

  • Is there a way that i can copy the files into a secure folder while the folder is still secure. I want to use secure folder for downloads with a Download Manager.
