When laptops came out, they were considered a great way to stay in touch with your work even when you were on the go. They provided you with the complete functionality of a desktop computer, and eliminated the requirement to stay at one place in order to use them. This was made possible due to optimizing the hardware components in such a way that they can be run on battery power. There have been a lot of improvements in terms of the charge a laptop’s battery can hold to provide power to the machine, it still poses a big issue to users. It’s fine if you get to charge the laptop battery after every few hours, but if you travel a lot, it’s a safe bet to say that your laptop runs out of battery charge quiet frequently. Today, we have an application for Windows called Battery Optimizer that optimizes your laptop in order to prolong the battery life. All of your system components, both hardware and software, are diagnosed, and suggestions are provided to the user on how to conserve the battery. Moreover, you can create Profiles to quickly apply the required settings to save remaining power.
The main interface provides you with a report of the current battery state. You can see the Time left at Current Charge, Battery Health, Potential Battery Life, and Potential Gain in Battery Life (after performing any optimizations). Upon first start, the Potential Battery Life and Potential Gain in Battery Life sections will have “Diagnostic Needed” in the information field. Click the Run Diagnostic button to start the analysis.
Clicking the Run Diagnostic button will take you to the Diagnostic tab. Here you can choose between Express Scanning Mode and Comprehensive Scanning Mode. During the process, your WiFi, Bluetooth and other devices (listed under the Diagnostic tab) will be turned off by the program. Click the Begin Diagnostic button to start the diagnosis. The whole process can take up a few minutes and it is recommended that you do not use the computer in the meantime.
When the diagnosis is complete, a Results page displays the current battery statistics, and the potential gain you can achieve with maximum optimizations. Click Optimize Battery Life to select the optimizations.
You can choose to turn off any hardware components and any peripherals found attached to the computer during the diagnosis. Moreover, the list displays and lets you turn off the Top 5 RAM Consuming Processes and Top 5 CPU Consuming Processes. Select the required settings and click Perform Optimizations to apply them.
The Monitoring tab at the top displays a graph for the percentage of battery charge and the energy consumption by different components of the system. The gray part depicts the battery charge, while the red line shows the energy consumed by the system at a particular point in time. All optimisations are graphed to monitor the difference in power consumption after using the tool.
The Profile tab contains saved optimization profiles for quickly changing between profiles.
Options tab lets you restore any changes made to the program settings, set alerts for low level of battery charge and heavy usage, make changes to default language, set plugged in and unplugged profiles, and view the error log.
In our experience, the application performed all the optimizations without a glitch. Battery Optimizer works on both 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Windows 8.
