Do you have Bluetooth on your PC

Bluetooth is a standard feature on desktop computers, laptops, and mobile devices as well as tablets. The OS these devices run may be different but the Bluetooth technology is more or less the same. The devices can communicate with each other and you can pair a phone or a tablet to a computer, or use Bluetooth to send files and connect peripherals like keyboards or a headphones.

Do you have Bluetooth on your PC?

Bluetooth can be turned on or off on a device. The same holds true for PCs. If you’re unable to pair Bluetooth devices, and you’re wondering if you have Bluetooth on your PC, there is a simple way to check.

Check Bluetooth on PC

To check Bluetooth on a Windows 10 PC, use any one of the following methods.

Method 1 – System tray

Look at the system tray and check if you see a Bluetooth icon. Click the overflow button to check if the icon is there. If it is, you have Bluetooth on your system.

Method 2 – Settings app

If you have Bluetooth on your PC, you will be able to turn it On or Off from the Settings app.

  1. Open the Settings app with the Win+I keyboard shortcut.
  2. Go to Devices>Bluetooth.
  3. Check if there is a switch to turn Bluetooth On.

Method 3 – Device Manager

Bluetooth appears as a group of devices on your system in Device Manager.

  1. Open Device Manager.
  2. Look for Bluetooth in the tree of device groups.

Turn Bluetooth On

If you do not see Bluetooth on your system using any or all of the above systems, it’s possible that Bluetooth is present but switched off from the BIOS. This tends to happen on Dell systems but can also happen on systems from other manufacturers.

  1. Restart your computer.
  2. Boot to the BIOS before Windows 10 boots up.
  3. In the BIOS, look for hardware configuration options.
  4. If Bluetooth is listed there, turn it On.
  5. Restart the system and boot to Windows 10.
  6. Open Device Manager.
  7. Click the Scan for hardware changes button.
  8. Windows 10 will detect and install Bluetooth drivers.

Manually install Bluetooth drivers

It’s possible that Bluetooth is turned on, on your system but Windows 10 never installed drivers for it. You can manually install them yourself.

  1. Visit the website for your laptop/desktop manufacturer.
  2. Enter your device’s model number.
  3. Download the Bluetooth driver.
  4. Run the file and Bluetooth drivers will be installed.
  5. Restart the system.
  6. Open the Settings app with the Win+I keyboard shortcut.
  7. Go to Devices>Bluetooth.
  8. Turn Bluetooth on.

It’s hard to find a laptop or desktop that doesn’t have Bluetooth. If you’re unsure about your system, the above checks will confirm that it is present. Often, problems with Bluetooth missing on a system have to do with drivers not being installed.
