How To: Root Android Devices With Universal Androot App

There is some great news for Android users looking for some painless universal root method or application. As one-click rooting has gained immense popularity among the masses so now you can also root any supported Android device with Universal AndRoot Application. This application is free and all you have to do is to install it in your device using a 3rd party file manager.

Here are the step by step instructions on rooting your Android devices using universal root:


  1. The first step is to download Universal Androot 1.6.2 beta 5.
  2. Now connect your supported Android device to the computer and mount SD card.
  3. Now copy the APK file you downloaded in Step 1, to the SD card.
  4. After this is done, use any Astro File Manager to install the file. You can install Astro File Manager for free from Android Market.
  5. Now launch the Universal Androotapplication and follow onscreen instructions to root your device. There you go! It is the simplest method ever to root your Android device and we have tested this method successfully on Nexus One and Sony Ericsson X10/X10 Mini.

    Wow, way to go, you’ve got no support for 3 of the most popular Android phones. Useless program.

      if you did a little more digging you would know that there is another way to root the HTC devices , i.e. UnrEVOked.

      This is FAR from a useless program, it works on devices that use the Android stock ROM, which is applicable on a LOT of other models…but then again, you’d know that….;)

      if you use this with the droid eris, just root using the temporary root feature. the normal root feature will brick your phone on the next reboot.

    Great job with this app!!! I actually just downloaded it straight to my Milestone and opened it from there and it worked nicely. Now, can I install a 2.2 rom with this root method? If so, how can I do this?

    i am trying to root a sony ericsson x10…. when i go to install the androot, i get, INSTALL BLOCKED…. i tried to go into setting to click the unknown source, but the problem is, i dont see it… plz help…. i really want to root my phone….

      I don’t know what could be the problem there – it is supposed to show that. Try searching for and downloading AppsInstaller from the Android Market and use it to install the androot APK instead. Perhaps that will work.

      Hero running 2.2 still doesn’t seem to be supported officially as the comparability list mentions it will work only on 2.1 with Hero.

    I have a droid 1 running 2.2 build number FRG83D, and when I try to root it, it gets to the point where it says “Rooting…” but then it comes back saying “Failed ! No ~~~ Fu goo ~~~”. Any suggestions?

    If you brick your Sanyo zio or get stuck in a boot loop here’s what I did to fix mine.

    1. Install all the drivers needed for the zio (plug in the USB and micro USB etc or Google the drivers.

    2. Download the clockwork mod or open zio rom and find a way to put the openzio.zip file on the main directory of the sd card

    3. Put your phone into fast boot mode by pressing the call button and end button at the same time

    4. Follow the instructions on how to use the clock work mod and if you do it correctly the the phone will have an android logo with a circle around it and will eventually boot up to a new phone

    Side note I screwed up my sanyo zio by trying to install the jitter and busybox programs before installing the clockwork mod. Z4root does work for the zio. Now I have the zte score which I was thinking about rooting any questions email me at kooler_than_Jesus666@yahoo.com

    I have htc hero and and i updated it from 1.6 to 2.1 I followed the instruction steps rooting my device, in the end it says ”woot! Your device is rooted!” but i don’t see superuser permissions icon to be added to my program list and i don’t see any change to my phone. I also downloaded from the market a program called Root check and it appears that i don’t have yet root. Can anyone help?

    I have dowloaded the application and it is on my SD card.  The instructions in the post say to copy the APK file to the SD card.  I can’t see suchj a file.  I have copied over all that came with the download?  What am I missing.  Also how do you “run” such a file
