UTube Ripper is a very useful application which allows you to easily download and convert YouTube videos into different formats. You will be definitely aware of some online services that allow you to download videos from YouTube but they don’t provide you much customization options. With Utube Ripper you can convert downloaded videos into MPEG or AVI video format and can also extract audio from them. It works on all flavors of Linux, lets explore how we can install and use it in Ubuntu.
First of all download its installer from its official site, once download is complete, double click it and click Install Package.

It will take couple of minutes to install the required package, in the meanwhile you will be able to track the installation progress as shown in following screenshot.

Once installation is complete you can launch it from Applications > Internet > Utube ripper.

Here is screenshot showing how it looks when launched.

Enter the YouTube video URL in Utube Video URL box and click Download, it will start to download it and you will get download status information in Console box as shown in following screenshot. It will save downloaded YouTube videos in flash format(.flv format).

Now to convert the particular video, browse and select the .flv file and check Rip audio only option if you want to extract only audio from it, click Convert and it will save it in .mp3 format.

Thats all, now you can easily download and convert your favorite videos from YouTube in your Ubuntu system. Enjoy!

Just like if you are working on a remote sever and you need to download some video there, and you don’t have a graphical end available on the remote server, then what will you do? Try YouTube-Dl. It downloads YouTube videos from the command line and works on Linux, Unix, and Mac OS. [...]
