# Excel 2010: Data Range Bars Using REPT Formula

This post will cover how to create a simple graph for each record, using REPT function. The parameter are very simple to follow, you just need to specify *Text ,*and *Number of Times* you want to repeat the text. It is the simplest way of visually observing the performance and status of person record.

Launch Excel 2010, open a datasheet on which you want to show the data bars from formula. For instance, we have included a datasheet, which contain fields; *Name, Marks, *showing name and marks obtained by the students*, *as shown in the screenshot below.

To start out with, we will be adding a new row label adjacent to *Marks, *by the name of *Graph*. We will write formula on the first row of *Graph.*

The syntax of the formula is;

=REPT(text, number_times)

In formula, REPT refers to repeat. The first parameter *text *refers to the string you want to show. Second parameter *number_times *refers to how many times the string will be repeated.

So we will fill parameters as;

=REPT(“X”, C2)

The *X *will be repeated as many times as specified in location* C2* (80), as shown in the screen shot below.

Now apply the formula on the whole column by dragging the plus sign at the end of the cell to the end of the column.

As you can see in the screen shot below, we have make a simple data bar from formula, showing marks obtained by each student visually. Now from the *Graph *you can infer the overall position of any student.
