Google Drive is one of the services that didn’t make it to the headlines at Google I/O a few days back, and no noteworthy update to the service was expected either. What we do have now, is an update for the Google Drive Android app, a massive one. There are new features, a new interface, and bug fixes. When you update the app, the first thing you will notice is he interface that is now cleaner and easier to scroll, gives you a grid like view, and follows the card-based UI that users love from Google Now. Feature wise, the app can now connect with your camera to snap documents, and convert them to searchable PDF files using OCR. File editors now allow you to view a file’s properties, fonts & cell highlights can be edited for spreadsheets, and files can be made available offline. Read More

How To Easily Access Or Delete Any TextEdit Document Saved To iCloud

With Mountain Lion, Apple integrated iCloud more deeply in OS X. Unlike before when it was just your email or contacts syncing, iCloud now lets you sync app data and save documents directly to it. TextEdit, the default text editing app in OS X, asks you whether you want to save a file to your desktop or to iCloud each time you create a new document. The only problem is that Apple forgot to include any sort of real interface for iCloud. Sure, you can search for the iCloud folder but if you can make any sense out of the sub-folders you find in it or identify files there correctly, you deserve a medal! Seafile is a cloud service that allows you to create and share a private cloud library of files with friends or colleagues. Files get synced for all users, so that if one person edits a document or makes any changes to it (if they’re allowed to), Seafile automatically updates the changes for everyone in the group. I know this sounds trite, but sharing files via the cloud is an amazingly convenient thing. You might also use more than one service depending on its features; for example, I use Google Drive, Dropbox, and Jumpshare. Doo Comes To Android; Provides On-The-Go Access To Cloud Documents

Doo is a document syncing service with desktop apps available for OS X 10.8+ and Windows 8. It initially gives you 25GB of storage space to try out, and allows you to connect folders on your hard drive, your Dropbox, Google Drive, and Skydrive to it in order to make all your documents available in a single cloud-synced location. A user can selectively pick the folders that will be synced to Doo. The service has just released its first smartphone app, and it is for the Android platform. For now, the app allows you to view a list of your cloud files complete with thumbnails, and lets you download any one of them to your phone. The app does not support uploading any file from your device yet though. However, you can search for files, or view them by name, date, flag, companies, people, and other tags that Doo supports on its desktop apps. Read More

There’s no shortage of cross platform file syncing services out there. Each has something special about it; some offer more storage, while others sell themselves on distinguising features or a great interface. Suffice to say, we’re swimming in file syncing services. Zoolz is different; it’s file storage and backup in the cloud. The app uses a desktop client to backup files to your cloud drive. SkyDrive is Microsoft’s native file hosting service similar to Dropbox and Google Drive that allows to upload files to cloud storage and sync them across all your Windows devices. Compared to earlier cloud storage and sync services offered by Microsoft (Live Mesh et al) , SkyDrive has a deeper integration with the latest versions of both Windows and Office. Just like Dropbox, Google Drive, and other popular sync services SkyDrive creates a folder in your hard drive and anything that is copied into it gets automatically uploaded to the cloud. You can access your cloud data using your account information from any computer with an internet connection.
