Find Out Which Websites Are Tracking You (Privacy)

Editor’s Notes: Almost every website use some kind of tracking code, leaving all websites for the sake of privacy would mean visiting no website at all. If you see tracking services such as Google Analytics, Quantcast, etc on a website, you don’t need to fret. Such services are used by webmasters to check how many people are visiting their websites. This add-on is for advanced users who hate being tracked by few services for the sake of their privacy. In other words, if you are a normal internet user then you shouldn’t worry. Ghostery is a free add-on for Firefox that lets you know which websites are tracking you. Since more and more websites are using the tracking codes and scripts to monitor their visitor’s behavior, you can keep check on these websites by using this add-on. According to the developer,

2 Ways To Extract/View Any Archive File Before Downloading

Suppose you need to download a 5MB sound card driver, instead you find a 100MB archive file on the manufacturer’s website which contains a complete list of drivers. But since you don’t need them all, what you will do is extract the archive file, find the sound card driver, and finally download it. But how will you extract the archive file without downloading it in the first place? Below I have posted two methods that will help.

Note: I reviewed a software for Windows that does the same thing here. But it has few limitations, such as you can’t use it in other Operating Systems. The methods covered below can be used in any operating system since it is not a software that needs to be downloaded.

ArchView (Firefox plugin)

ArchView is an add-on for Firefox that can open the archive file online without downloading it. Just click on the archive file and you will see all the contents inside it. To download a file, first select the file and then go to File > Save. You can select multiple files by holding down Ctrl button and selecting the files. The supported archive formats are: Zip, Rar, and ISO.

Suppose a situation where you have two computers, one at home and one at office. You bookmarked an important article at home and would like to show it to your co-workers, what would you do? Suppose another situation where you have a home computer and a laptop for travel purposes, you bookmarked important websites at home and would like to access them in your laptop while traveling to a far away never land.

Xmarks is an awesome add-on for Firefox and other browsers that can sync the bookmarks between multiple browsers and computers instantly. Currently it supports Firefox add-on only, add-ons for other browsers are coming soon. I decided to test it on two different computers(for the sake of  convenience I am naming them Computer A and Computer B), both running same version of Firefox but different versions of Windows OS.

Xmarks works by syncing your bookmarks with it’s server, you will need to create an account with them to begin. After you have created an account with Xmarks, right-click the Xmark icon on the right side of the status bar and select Xmarks Settings.
