ICS ROM For Motorola Xoom (Wi-Fi) Available [Download & Install]

Let the Ice Cream Sandwich madness begin! Motorola Xoom, Google's flagship Honeycomb tablet, has just received it’s first working ICS ROM thanks to XDA-Developers forum member razorbladex401. The ROM is a work in progress and meant for the Xoom Wi-Fi only, but for some strange reasons people on the forum have reported it to be working on their 3G Xoom tablets as well, however, if you do have a 3G Xoom, we advise you to stay away from such adventures, especially if you have never rooted or installed custom ROMs on it. Coming back to the ROM, there may be some graphical glitches as per the developer, but the important thing is, Wi-Fi is working, and users are reporting a very snappy and smooth OS. We again advice, that users who have experience with custom ROMs on their Xoom devices, only they try this out, you never know what bug you might hit and want to revert back. Oh and one more thing, you will loose root, but there’s a cure for that. Link, can be found at the bottom of the post. Read More

Gain Root ADB Access With Insecure Boot Image For Kindle Fire

The core appeal of an insecure boot image for an Android device, is its life jacket like role for a device that is otherwise irrecoverable. An insecure boot image gives you a degree of recoverability at the very earliest stage of the device boot process, even if the /system partition on your device has been messed up. With an insecure boot image, you stand a chance and connecting your device via ADB to a computer and sort things out to try and recover the device. The Kindle Fire however, was missing an insecure boot image, but not anymore thanks to XDA-Developers forum member paulobrien. More on this after the break. Read More

Add Permanent Search Button To On Screen Controls On Galaxy Nexus

With Ice Cream Sandwich, came the Galaxy Nexus, and with the Galaxy Nexus we saw the elimination of the hardware capacitive / physical buttons, used to navigate an Android device. With those buttons now conveniently built into the OS for the Galaxy Nexus, Google decided to do away with the much useful Search button. So, you no longer have access to the Search button at anytime on the screen. Kind of annoying for some people. Besides, there’s still plenty of room for one button down there! XDA-Developers forum member paulobrien was quick to get this rectified. Well, no Google didn’t, he had to do it himself, so hats off to him for releasing a mod / patch that now makes the search button a permanent on screen button on the Galaxy Nexus. And not just that, he also added a few more twists to it as well, including placements and the addition of the legacy menu buttons placement and behavior as well. More on it, after the break.
