Instagram Updated With New Camera, Effects & Infinite Profile Scrolling

Just a few hours ago, Twitter announced a new update for its mobile clients. The official Android and iOS apps of the service now boast some pretty decent photo filters, prompting a few people to predict the end of Instagram. Of course, this release came just a day after Twitter dropped support for inline display of Instagram images. As you would expect, Instagram has responded quite quickly. Both iOS and Android variants of the mobile photo sharing service have received an update, making them much smoother and more beautiful than before. Using the Instagram camera is quite a lot easier now, and there is even a new filter thrown into the mix. The profile view and welcome page have also been tweaked, allowing users to scroll through any grid infinitely. Foursquare support has been added, and there is a special button that can take you to any location’s Foursquare page for extra details. Read More

How To Keep Track Of People Who Unfollow You On Instagram

Instagram is the dominant photo-sharing service on Android and iOS today. It’s epic rise to fame is thanks to its lovely set of filters that can make even the most mundane photographs – such as those of the food you’re eating – look “artistic”. But the filter-set actually played only a small part in its success; a large chunk of the hype around Instagram comes from it’s strong online social network that is used frequently by celebrities and thought-leaders. Now, since “social” is at the heart of Instagram, keeping track of people who follow you and who don’t is quite important, especially if you are conscious of your presence on the service and on the Internet in general. In this post, we’ll be discussing a web-based tool, as well as an iOS app with which you can see who recently unfollowed you. Read More

GramWidget Is An Awesome Instagram Widget For Android Home & Lock Screen

Since the official Android app of the popular social photo-sharing wonder Instagram doesn’t (yet) support a dedicated widget, most avid users have to rely on a third-party offering to take a glance at the various activities taking place on the network from their home screens. In this regard, we have already reviewed an elegant solution by the name of BlinxBox that impressed us greatly with its overall features. However, with the widget no longer available in the market anymore, it’s a great opportunity for the developers community to offer a viable alternative. That’s exactly what the developer of GramWidget has done! Just like BlinxBox, GramWidget is a third-party Instagram Android widget capable of circling your favorite photo content from the service on your home screen. Users on Android 4.2 or higher also get the option to set GramWidget, complete with Instagram’s picture-filled goodness, on their devices’ lockscreens to enjoy an unending stream of high quality photos from their Instagram account. Overgram For iPhone Beautifes Your Instagram Photos With Typography

Whenever you need to add some text to a photo before posting it to Instagram, Facebook or some other social network, the iOS app that is likely to come to your mind before any other is “Over”. There are a lot of other apps available for iPhone users that perform the same task, but thanks to its polished interface and attractive fonts, Over has gained quite a lot of fame and fans in a short time. For users who'd rather not spend $0.99 to beautify photos with text, the team behind Over has released a free variant of the app labeled Overgram. There is a catch, though; there will be a small watermark at the corner of each photo, but almost everything else is the same as the full version. You will get an extensive color palette for the text, the alignment options work quite well and there are plenty of fonts available too. Read More

Search App Store, Cydia, Social Media & Much More From iOS Spotlight

Spotlight search is among the most favorite targets for Cydia developers. The perfect combination of permanent presence and limited usefulness has enticed many jailbreak developers to come up with tweaks that can really enhance Spotlight. SLightEnhancerSearch is the latest tweak that will put your iPhone’s Spotlight search on steroids. While almost all local areas of your iDevice are already accessible through Spotlight, the search range is by no means complete. For example, Spotlight is useless if you want to search within the App Store. When it comes to web searches, there are just search engines (Google by default) and Wikipedia on offer. SLightEnhancerSearch lets users decide what they want to search for from the Spotlight. You can add a lot of search shortcuts to the list, including major social media apps, iTunes, App Store, Cydia, iBooks and more. Join us after the break for the complete list and further details. Browse Instagram With Its New Facebook-Like Web User Profiles

Instagram has always remained focused on being a mobile service. It’s desktop presence is lacking with no official apps for either Windows or Mac, and a web presence that lets you do little more than managing your profile and the apps that can access your Instagram feed. All that’s changed, with Instagram rolling out user web profiles. These profiles are somewhat similar to the Facebook profile view, and allow you to view all images uploaded by a user in your web browser. Images can be commented on (if you’re signed in to Instagram), and you can delete comments from under your own images. As yet, the web interface is quite passive; it does not allow you to manage your followers or follow other users. For the user, there is little to do on the new profile pages that cannot already be done from Instagram’s mobile app or one of the many third party apps available for your desktop. However, it is a great way for non-users to get acquainted with the network. Read More

Whims For iPhone Is Like Instagram For Stylized Words & One-Liners

Although Instagram is basically an image sharing service, a lot of photos posted on the network are nothing more than inspirational (or even random) quotes in fancy fonts and pretty backgrounds. While many people like such photos, a considerable percentage of users think that Instagram is not the right platform for such text-oriented images. Apparently, the developers of the new Whims app appear to wholeheartedly agree with that, and have come up with a brand new social network that aims to weed out these quotes from Instagram, and provide them with a home of their own. Thanks to Whims, you can easily create elaborate text snippets, complete with customizable fonts, text styles and background images. The end product, or rather, the 'whim' can be saved to your camera roll, shared with your friends on other social networks, or published on the app’s own network. Read More

Poptagram Shows Specific Tagged Instagram Photos At Regular Intervals [Mac]

Instagram is a more-than-familiar name for most amateur photographers, and its user-base has definitely grown with the app being launched for Android OS and the company’s acquisition by Facebook. All this means more pictures are being uploaded. There’s quite a few Instagram browsers available for desktop platforms, but since there isn’t an official app, you will find a host of unofficial ones. Poptagram is yet another free Instagram app for OS X that allows you to search Instagram using a single hashtag. The app then regularly checks for new images that have the same tag, and shows them in the top-right corner of your screen. It's like a bulletin for the latest tagged Instagram images. Read More

How To Enable Live Camera Filters In Instagram On iPhone 5

Instagram users have always loved just about everything related to the app, and generally, its updates have been received quite favorably. However, after the service’s acquisition by Facebook, it’s the first time that an Instagram update has come under some criticism. Instagram was updated just a couple of days ago to add iPhone 5 support, but that wasn’t the only change in the app. The update removed live filters from the iPhone 5 version. Previously, it was possible to apply filters to a scene before snapping a photo, but now the Instagram developers have decided that this feature is a little disruptive, as you can apply the same filters after shooting a picture, and testing them out pre-shooting does nothing but waste the time of their users. If you don’t agree with this logic, there is a workaround that will let you use the live filters, even on iPhone 5. The solution is based on what appears to be a bug in the Instagram update, so it might stop working at any time in the future, but everything is functional for now. Read More

Instaport: Export Instagram Photos by Tag, Time Or Likes [Web]

Web and desktop apps for downloading Instagram photos aren’t difficult to find. We’ve covered quite a few of them and there was a particular influx of such apps when Facebook bought Instagram. The acquisition probably made many people think some sort of evil would seep into Instagram from Facebook. The scare died down fairly quickly, but that doesn’t necessarily mean users no longer need to or want to download their photographic masterpieces from Instagram. Instaport is a web app that connects to your Instagram account and allows you to download all photos you’ve ever uploaded to it. Just about every Instagram downloader does this, what makes Instaport unique is that it not only lets you download pictures that have been tagged with a particular word, but also lets you enter a time range to download photos from. This makes it easy for you to download images uploaded during a particular week or month (when perhaps you were on vacation). Additional download options let you download the last ‘x’ number of pictures you took and all pictures that you’ve ever ‘liked’. Read More

Instagram 3.0 For Android & iOS Lets You View Geo-Tagged Photos On Map

If you thought that Instagram would always remain a case of applying a handful of retro filters to your photos, sharing them over the social network and then viewing them on monotonous-looking lists and grids, you were wrong! Along with introducing several slick UI enhancements in the latest Instagram update, the team behind arguably one of the most popular social photo-sharing Android and iOS apps has introduced a brand new feature called Photo Map. The update sees the official Android and iOS client of Instagram move to version 3, and while there are no new filters for you to play around with, there is this amazing new Photo Map that, as its name implies, instills a touch of geolocation to your photo browsing and sharing experience. In simple words, you can now view your and your followers’ geo-tagged images on a map to see the exact location where those wonderful moments were snapped. Also introduced in the update is a totally revamped and well-polished user profile page, Popular photos grid, and uploader screen. That’s not all; the update also brings with it snappier performance, infinite scrolling of feeds (say goodbye to the ‘Load More’ button), option to report users, and copy image URLs (iOS only). Permissions: Manage & Control The Privacy Of Your Facebook, Twitter & Other Accounts

A lot of people might not be aware of the fact that they have allowed a lot of apps to post to their Facebook account on their behalf, or to access their personal data from Twitter, Instagram or Windows Live. A majority of iOS apps that have got some social aspect, need users to link these services to the app, and it is only natural to lose track of all the services that are allowed to access your personal accounts. Of course, there are menus for revoking and managing these permissions in all services (like the Apps section in Facebook’s Account Settings), but most users don’t want to go to each account separately and then go through the long list of all the apps added there so that the useless ones can be culled. Permissions is an iPhone app to cleanse all your personal accounts including Yahoo, Hotmail, Facebook, Twitter, etc. The app provides a streamlined way of removing apps from all these accounts, and you can even use it to define new account privacy permissions. Collections: Desktop Viewer & Editor For Google Docs & Instagram [Mac]

Google Docs and Instagram are two amazing services. Google Docs, although accessible from your Desktop (provided you have the Google Drive app installed), does not provide an editor, and Instagram, while developing its web interface, is still best used from your iOS or Android device. Collections is a free Mac app that supports both Google Docs and Instagram. While it is just a viewer for your Instagram feed, on the Google side of things, it is a desktop editor that allows you to edit, update and save changes to files in Docs. You can access documents, presentations and spreadsheets and edit them using the same tools available on the online version of the suite. For Instagram, the functionality this app provides is pretty much the same that you get from the web interface, but as far as great Instagram browsers for your desktop go, this app is a good contender. Instagrille Updated, Now Lets You Download Images & See Nearby Shares

It looks like everyone’s been talking about Instagram these days. Seldom it happens that an app or service creates this much hype, but this iOS and Android app has surely earned its crown in the world of mobile photography. Free Instagram Downloader Lets You Save All Photos Shared By Any User

Facebook's recent $1 billion acquisition of Instagram created a lot of fuss and made the service even more popular among the masses. Launched exclusively as an iOS app, Instagram made its way to Android later (and there’s no knowing where the service is headed next), and now, it is even more mainstream than ever before. If you’re an avid Instagram user (who isn’t, anyway?), then you must have known that Instagram doesn’t allow you to download images hosted on their website, at least natively. For the very purpose, you need to look for third-party solutions, such as desktop clients and web apps, to download the photos to your PC. Previously, we have covered a plethora of Instagram image downloaders, including Instagrille For Pokki, Instarchive web app and 4K Stogram For Windows, all of which let you download Instagram images in batch. Browsing around the web, I came across this brand new Instagram desktop application for Windows, simply known as Free Instagram Downloader, and thought to share it with you. It is developed by iWesoft and akin to 4K Stogram, the application can download shared images of any Instagram user. There is no password or authentication required, and you just need to input the username to list down every image ever publicly uploaded through that account. Read More

InstaTalks Is A Chat Client For Instagram Users [Android, iOS]

When it comes to mobile-only social networks, Instagram needs no introduction. The insanely-popular photo sharing network for iPhone and Android has gathered countless fans across the globe in a rather short span of time. However, it holds true for Instagram as well that nothing’s perfect, and there’s always room for improvement. Take the interaction among the service’s users, for instance. The only interaction options that you get are through comments and “loving” a picture, but that’s about it – there are no direct messages, chat or anything else of the sort. While Instagram itself seems to deem it sufficient, third party developers disagree, and that’s perhaps the reason we see InstaTalks released in the iTunes App Store. Developed by Natrobit S.r.l., the app allows you to chat with any of your Instagram followers that also use InstaTalks. You can even search for the app’s users in your vicinity and connect with them on the go. Update: InstaTalks is now available for Android. We've added a link to its Play Store page at the end of the article. Read More

The app is different from all others in its genre due to the fact that you can use photos from all your social networks to create beautiful collages. Instagram provides all the photo effects and filters that most iOS users need, but if you take a look at the posts floating around on the popular photo sharing network, you are sure to notice that in addition to photos of cats, sunsets and jewelry, there are many images on Instagram that highlight some textual message in an artistic manner. If you are one of those people who like writing something on a photo before posting it to Instagram, you might be frustrated by the lack of text effects and editing options in the app. Fortunately, Textgram is an iPhone app (Update: Now available on Android) that bestows Instagram with a certain completeness regarding text designs and effects.
