Marlin File Browser Now Supports Compression & Extended Actions

Previously, we brought you a detailed review of the Marlin file browser. Since then, Marlin has been updated with a few additional changes including  support for compressing files and extended-actions as well as a few fixes such as making the “Open Terminal extension” functional. In this post, we will take a look at  new Marlin updates that make it more handy.

The Compression function in Marlin now works as good as Nautilus, i.e. you can compress files and folder via right-click context menu.

Contractor has now been replaced with Extended-actions to make Marlin more robust. If you aren’t familiar with these names, Contractor is a sharing service that allows source apps to send their data to registered destination apps, whereas Extended actions is another back-end service that enables applications to request some extended actions for a list of files, depending on their MIME types and other constraints. Users can extend applications by adding custom actions. Moreover, the Open Terminal extension has finally started working in Marin. All extensions come pre-enabled, and therefore, do not need manual intervention to make them work.
