Nimbus Is A Powerful Screenshot Tool For Chrome With Hotkeys Support & An Image Editor

Nimbus-Screen-Capture-best-Chrome-screenshot-extension
A good in-browser screenshot tool is rarely accompanied by an editor and when it is, the screenshot feature is usually not all that great. Nimbus Screen Capture is a screenshot extension for Chrome that, besides having an excellent interface, is fast and feature rich. It can take screenshots of an entire web page, a selected area, only the visible part of the web page, and lets the user edit screenshots. The extension's excellent editor lets you crop, draw, write, and blur the image before saving. It also supports keyboard shortcuts and let you take a screenshot from the extension’s button that’s added next to the URL bar or from its options in the right-click context menu. Nimbus Screen Capture can save the screenshots in JPG, PNG and BMP formats to your local drive as well as Google Drive, and even send it directly to your printer. Read More

Collaborative Multimedia Note-Taking Service Moxtra Comes To Android

Moxtra-for-Android
Earlier this year, an ambitious group of former employees from WebEx – an on-demand collaboration, online meeting, video and web conferencing company by Cisco – launched their Evernote-esque project by the name of Moxtra. It is basically a cloud-based virtual binder for sharing and collaborating on all sorts of content. It allows groups to collect and collaboratively work on videos, pictures, documents, notes etc. – something that a lot of services have already been offering for a while now. Back in January (the time when Moxtra was initially launched), it was only rolled out as iPad and web apps but after almost six months since it inception, the service has finally expanded to other platforms as well, including desktop and Android. Akin to its iPad counterpart, Moxtra for Android not just works great, but also looks fairly elegant and intuitive. Read More

Shared Offers 5GB Free Cloud Storage Upgradable To 2TB & 1GB Size Limit Per File

Shared-cloud-storage
Even though some find it hard to trust and rely on cloud storage services, the cloud is definitely here to stay and many major tech companies are now offering cloud storage in one form or another, either with their existing products or as a separate service. Big names like Dropbox, SkyDrive, Google Drive, SugarSync etc. have been dominating the cloud realm for the past few years, but that doesn't mean there’s no room for potential new entrants to hop on to the bandwagon. The newest to join the club is Shared Media, with their Shared cloud storage service offering 5GB of free cloud storage, with up to 2TB available at attractive pricing plans. Perhaps one of the best things about it is the 1GB file size limit for free accounts and even higher for paid ones, letting you save even the biggest of files out there to the cloud. Details after the jump. Read More

Control iOS Orientation, Brightness & Volume With Tap & Swipe Gestures

DoubleTap iOS
It is certainly nothing new for Cydia tweaks to make use of gestures to change the values of screen brightness or the device’s volume level. Having said that, most such tweaks are not really a sight to behold, since they rarely use the default iOS HUDs or sliders, leading to a rather unflattering end product. Even if the looks are kept original, the gestures end up getting too complex to perform in daily routine. DoubleTap is a new Cydia tweak by Alan Yip that does a good job of bringing gestures to the party whenever you are in need of a quick way to change your iPhone’s screen brightness or volume level. With DoubleTap, you won’t have to decide upon an Activator gesture, since the tweak comes with a few predefined gestures and their corresponding actions. It even lets you toggle the orientation lock without entering the App Switcher tray. Read More

Habit Grooming, Self Improvement App Lift Comes To The Web

Lift-for-web

Breaking bad habits or developing good ones isn't easy, but there are smartphone apps like Lift for iPhone that try to help you with just that. Much like checking into a place on Foursquare, Lift has you check in each time you've practiced a good habit, or restrained from a bad one. The app has now introduced a web interface that allows you to check-in to your habits, add new ones, and set reminders from your desktop. The interface almost entirely mimics the iPhone app, and the features are the same as well. You can add habits, edit existing ones, add friends, follow users, and view your check-in stats.

Explore The New Features In iOS 7 Using This Interactive Web Demo

iOS 7 Simulator
Back in the days when Windows Phone was still the new kid on the block, Microsoft released an interactive web-based demo of the platform to entice users of other smartphones. The announcement of Blackberry Z10 was also accompanied by Glimpse, which allowed users to explore some of the finer aspects of BB10. It is a testament to the popularity of iOS that Apple hasn't released a demo for the latest iOS 7 update, but some fans have gone to great pains to create one themselves. The Recombu demo of iOS 7 beta is interactive, and offers a pretty decent representation of the update. You can use some of the apps, take a good look at the new UI elements and even get a firsthand experience with features like Control Center. Read More

Microsoft BLINK For WP8 Now Creates Animations From Burst Shot Photos

MS-BLINK-Windows-Phone-8
Windows Phone already has Action Shot, so the presence of Microsoft Research's BLINK might seem a little redundant to some as the two serve the same purpose of making sure that you never end up taking a bad photo. Blackberry’s Time Shift feature and third-party iOS apps like timelyy also employ the same concept, but thanks to its latest update, BLINK is different from all of these apps/features. This is because it doesn't just capture multiple still shots to let you choose the best of the lot; it also creates an animation out of the photos to make the whole thing even more useful. The app has been around in the WP Store for some time now, but people have often complained that it lacks some of the options that could have made it their default camera app. If you are among those people, you are going to love the latest BLINK update. Read on for details. Read More

Facebook For iOS Gets Status Icons & Convenient Privacy Controls

Facebook 6.2 iOS
The Facebook app for iPhone is adequate enough to keep users away from the service’s desktop version for weeks. If, like me, you rely almost exclusively on Facebook’s app to stay in touch with your friends, then you might be a little confused seeing all the smiley faces and ‘feelings’ in the status updates all over your News Feed. The new status icons were introduced by Facebook in its desktop version a few weeks back, and the iPhone app has been updated with support for them just today. Now you can really let the world know how you are feeling, or what’s your bedside read these days. Apart from this major change, the update has also brought more easily accessible privacy controls and the ability to conveniently forward images received in messages. There's still no hashtag search and visibility, though. Read More

Epic-Pen-Windows-screen-highlighter-drawing-tool
Epic Pen is an open-source desktop application for Windows that’s designed with one purpose in mind: to let you draw anything, anywhere, on any window. While a tool like this might seem limited in terms of functionality, but it’s not quite so and can be genuinely useful under a myriad of usage scenarios. For instance, you can use it during presentations or screencasts for marking and reviewing ideas or pointing to different objects on the screen, even if they are spread across different apps or the desktop. That said, the application can also come in handy for arc-tracking, annotation, and freehand drawing motion. Epic Pen enables you to draw with an ink pen or highlighter tool on the desktop and also provides an eraser tool to revert changes at any time. You can hide and unhide the drawing on the fly. Likewise, the application also lets you use hotkeys to switch between the available drawing tools. Read More

MPme Radio Now On Android; Lets You Find Live Radio Stations By Genre, Artist & Song

MPme-Radio-for-Android
Radio apps and services are beginning to look as common as file sharing services but with music, it’s always a question of taste and whether or not an app can give you what you like. For me, Pandora has no parallel as far as online radio stations are concerned and I've found great music there. Though that doesn't mean there aren't any other worthwhile options around. MPme Radio lets you listen to music from radio stations grouped by genres, and while initially launched as an iOS app, it has now made its way to Android as well. You can either search for the right station by picking your favorite genre, or browse the ‘On Air’ radio stations to find what you like. Artists and radio stations you ‘favorite’ can then be quickly accessed and played any time from the ‘Favorites’ tab. In case of your favorite artists, the app searches for stations that are playing songs by them and automatically redirects you to them. From our tests, it appears that some stations have ads while others don’t. Listeners can share songs and also buy the ones they like from Google Play Store for offline playback. Read More

Nomacs-Windows-LAN-syncing-image-editor
There has never been a shortage of image viewers on Windows as well as other major desktop platforms; hop on to any software repository on the internet and you will find plenty of options for viewing your photos. So, do we really need another one? Perhaps yes. Especially when image viewers like Nomacs  come packaged with an umpteen number of features, the offer becomes even more enticing. View & Post To All Social Networks From One Place With Fuse For iPhone

Fuse-Social-iOS-Feed.jpg
With social networking sites introducing new features on an almost weekly basis, our online lives are finally going towards being streamlined. You can simultaneously post on Twitter and Facebook, while popular photo sharing apps like Instagram come with some impressive social media integration as well. When everything is converging, it seems reasonable to have services that are capable of combining your social networks without making you leave any of them. In the past, we have covered a few such services like Yoono for web and Cloze for iOS, but such services very rarely offer a news feed that truly combines updates from all of your accounts. Even if they do, the whole thing is often a complete mess and you end up missing several important posts. Fuse: Social takes care to keep things simple while offering a feed combining posts from Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter and Facebook. Rather than just showing updates, what sets Fuse apart is that it even lets you use almost every major feature of these social networks. Read More

How To Add A Vine Feed To Your Facebook Page

Vine-for-Facebook
Twitter’s Vine for iOS and Android - often referred to as the Instagram for videos - has not yet opened its API up to the public. This means other apps can't tap into its potential to do a lot of extra things, but there have been workarounds for some. We showed you how to embed a Vine video on a website and as of the last update to the app, users can embed videos more easily and share their Vine videos to Facebook as well. What you still cannot do, however, is embed your entire Vine stream on a web page. Fortunately, you can do so on a Facebook page that you own, and were gonna show you how. Read More

Eventiles Auto-Creates Contextual Albums Out Of Your iPhone Photos

Eventiles-iOS-Filter.jpg
You might not see it all the time, but every photo snapped using an iOS device has some EXIF data associated with it. If you have a jailbroken device, there are some ways of viewing these EXIF properties within the stock Photos app, but we have seen in the past that apps like Handy Album can put this information to even better use. Eventiles is somewhat similar to Handy Album, but has expanded the concept even further. With this iPhone app, you don’t need to perform any manual work, as it generates neat albums out of all the photos present in your device’s camera roll. The albums created by Eventiles use location and time data associated with pictures to group them together, and the app is even smart enough to assign suitable titles to these collections. As an added bonus, you get to apply beautiful filers to entire albums with a single tap, which can be really useful if you want to share the collection over your social network later. Read More

Sleep Genius For iPhone Manages Your Nap Cycles Based On Scientific Research

Sleep Genius iOS
Science might be able to phase out sleep to some extent in the future, but for now we need to take a nap whenever reinvigoration of the body and mind is needed. If your daily sleep is cut short by even a few hours, the entire day is largely affected. There are plenty of smartphone apps that claim to help users fall asleep, but Sleep Genius appears to be taking a completely reasonable approach to the problem. It doesn't make claims that are as lofty as the ones made by Dream:ON, but isn't as mundane as the previously covered Bedtime Help either. With Sleep Genius running on your iPhone, you can get a good night’s sleep thanks to the sound effects and ambient music it provides. Anyone who is in the habit of taking power naps is sure to love the app, since it has a whole menu dedicated to these short sleep spells. Even when it comes to waking up, Sleep Genius is different from its competitors, as it wakes you up gradually over the course of five minutes. Read More

Vox Gives The iPhone Battery Indicator A Minimal, Circular Design

Vox-for-iPhone-battery-indicators
A lot has been said and written about Apple’s new flat UI for iOS 7, and the emphasis on minimalism in almost all areas of the platform. Many have taken issue with the way app icons look in the update’s beta version, but some have also been appreciative of a few UI elements in iOS 7. The status bar received its chameleon-like characteristics in iOS 6, and has been revamped yet again in iOS 7. The signal bars are now rounded instead of vertical, and the battery indicator is new as well. Vox is not a port of the iOS 7 battery indicator by any means; rather it shows an alternative way the icon could have been redesigned to go with the update’s other minimal features. Rather than replicating an old-style alkaline cell, the Vox indicator is circular and changes its properties to match the current level of your device’s battery. The tweak is pretty unique for iOS, although it is somewhat reminiscent of the circular battery mod that came out for Android quite a while back. Read More

Create Evernote Templates To Organize Notes Your Way With KustomNote

KustomNote-Evernote-templates
Everyone recommends Evernote so much these days that it gets hard to imagine at times what the world was like before the little catch-all app came along. While Evernote works great for generic notes in all the supported formats, there are scenarios where you need to frequently note down information that is in a specific format, and you want to be able to save all that information while keeping the structural separation of the format intact. There may be a few such services out there, but many want to avoid the hassle of using multiple note-taking apps and would want to stick with their tried-and-tested Evernote. Fortunately, we've come across a service that takes care of all of this. Meet KustomNote - a web app that works as a companion to Evernote and lets you create templates to quickly and easily collect your ideas, appointments, research data etc. in a format of your choice. Your notes are still saved in Evernote itself, but everything looks neat and clean, on top of being very well organized. Read More

Kikutext Helps Teachers Communicate With Parents Via Text Messaging

Kikutext-parents-teachers
Being a teacher can be a wonderful experience, but it’s quite exasperating too, especially early on. And, as if your classroom duties weren't enough, you’re required to maintain consistent communication with lots of anxious parents and enhance school-to-home interaction, so students perform better. While these apparently conflicting demands are stressful, they’re also central to your teaching experience, and hence, implacable. Kikutext is a web application that understands the necessity of these stresses and seeks to mitigate them. Using the system, teachers are able to send quick individualized status updates directly to parents’ cell phones as text messages. Parents can respond to these updates by simply replying to a message from their cell phone. Read More
