Remote Messages For iOS Lets You Send iMessages From Windows, Android & More

As the line between SMS and instant messaging continues to get blurred, a lot of popular texting apps have earned their name on iOS and Android. For most iPhone owners, iMessage is the preferred mode of texting, specially since it is available on all iOS devices and even on Mac OS X. WhatsApp might have a larger user base, but it still doesn't let you text from a computer the way you can via iMessage for Mac. When it comes to iMessage itself though, Windows users are left out of the fun because Apple doesn't have an official Windows client for the service. However, there is a pretty good third-party solution available for this purpose that works via a jailbroken iDevice. Remote Messages has been around in the Cydia store for quite some time, but it has finally been updated for iOS 7 and sports some pretty awesome features. Read More

Mumble! For Android Adjusts Phone Vibration Based On Content Of Incoming SMS Messages

In addition to making and receiving phone calls and checking email, smartphones are fast becoming our primary devices for surfing the web, playing music, accessing social networks, streaming YouTube videos and a lot more. But lets not forget, they also allow us to send and receive text messages, which is of course one of their core functionalities. Speaking of messages, we all know that Android allows us to set custom notification tones for our SMS alerts, but an often overlooked feature is assigning custom vibration patterns to these notifications. While Android doesn't boast this feature natively, that shouldn't be an issue when we have apps like Mumble! for the purpose. It offers a great way to know about the type of text messages you receive without even having to check the notification, all by the vibration pattern. Details after the jump. Read More

Change Bubbles’ Color & Add Contact Pictures In iOS 7 Messages App

The interactive notifications offered by biteSMS might be great, but a lot of people use it for its visual aspects, too. The stock Messages app in iOS 7, on the other hand, has been flattened, along with the rest of the UI, but the basic color scheme of the app hasn't changed a lot. If you are getting a bit bored of seeing your texts wear the same, old look every day, then Messages Customiser might be a tweak that can help in this regard. This Cydia release doesn't supercharge the Messages app with a boatload of features, but the changes it does allow users to make are quite significant nonetheless. With this tweak, you get to change the color of the chat bubbles to any shade of your choice, and alter the overall tint of the Messages app as well. It is also possible to tinker with the shape and style of these bubbles, while the tweak’s ability to associate photos with SMS threads makes Messages Customiser a must-have for anyone who has recently gained access to the iOS 7 jailbreak. Disa Combines Text Messaging & WhatsApp On Android In A Great Interface [Review]

Jut the way cellphones made instant text-based communication ubiquitous, the advent of smartphones, the widespread availability of mobile internet, and services like WhatsApp made it free. However, multiple messaging apps can be a pain to manage, plus the more apps you run, the more system resources they are going to consume, especially with apps that actively work in the background. Remember the days when MSN, Yahoo! and AOL Messengers were all the rage, and multi-protocol IM apps like Pidgin, Digsby and Trillian were immensely popular because they supported all these services and more in a single package? Disa aims to do the same with the modern, phone number-based mobile messaging services. Currently in alpha, it's starting off with SMS and WhatsApp, with support for more services like Google Voice and Hangouts in the pipeline. Though despite being an alpha, it boasts an impressive interface, works surprisingly well, and even lets you merge conversations on multiple services into one!
