We have covered a lot of applications that allow you to make incremental backups of your data. For those who are not familiar with the incremental backup technique, it checks only those files that are new, or have been modified and then copy them to the target location. This technique is not only efficient, but also reduces the time it takes to create the backup of the source folder(s). Consider yourself in a situation where you are editing multiple documents present in a folder. Now, if you create a full backup of the folder every time you make changes to one or two documents, it will surely waste a lot of your precious time, but using incremental data backup technique, you will be able to copy only modified and new documents from source to target folder. Copy Changed Files
is an application for Windows that allows you to create incremental backups of your files and folders. It copies only the changed files, and offers two simple methods, namely date and time check
and binary comparison
for comparing the old files with the new ones. Keep reading after the break to find out more about Copy Change Files.
For those of you who aren't familiar with ASCII art, it's a form of graphic designing wherein a photo is made entirely out of the characters from the ASCII chart. Basically, it is text-based visual art that can be created with any text editor. However, manually creating ASCII art takes up a lot of time and requires a lot of concentration. If you want to convert an existing photo, for instance, a photo of yourself, into ASCII art, you can use a software to do the job for you. Previously, we reviewed
ASCII Generator (an open source application that lets you convert images to text-based art
, allows adjustment of
density levels, brightness, contrast and dither of
the converted images). Today, we have a similar application with a much more extensive set of options. Meet Textaizer Pro
, a text mosaic and ASCII art creator for Windows; perhaps the best, most comprehensive one we've come across so far.
Before the use of USB flash drives to install Windows became common, we could only install Windows on our computers using CDs. At that time, installing an operating system using a USB flash drive sounded like a thing of the future, but today, it is as common as using a CD. Newer versions of Microsoft Windows, like Windows 7, can be installed in two ways: directly from Windows XP and Windows Vista, and by using a bootable USB/CD. If your PC doesn’t have any operating system installed, then you may need a bootable USB drive to boot the system into Windows installation setup. Today, we have an application for you called WiNToBootic
, which allows you to make a bootable NTFS USB drive for installing Windows. The application focuses on speed and convenience, allowing you to write ISO images via drag and drop. Furthermore, unlike other bootable USB creators, WiNToBootic provides a Quick Format option, which saves you the time you would've spent performing the operation yourself. More on WiNToBootic after the jump.
For those who are unfamiliar with the terms Shadow Copy or VSS (Volume Snapshot Service), it is a technology included in Microsoft Windows. What it does is it automatically creates backups of your data, with an option to lets you do so manually. Both Windows Vista and Windows 7 can create copies of your files and folders, which allows you to retrieve the previous versions in case they are accidentally deleted, modified or manipulated in one way or the other. In computers running Windows Vista or Windows 7 operating systems, this service is active by default. Microsoft has only included the privilege of accessing shadow copies in Windows Ultimate, Business and Enterprise edition, leaving other editions of the OS to dust. Back in January, I reviewed an application for Windows called Shadow Explorer. It is a tool that allows Windows Home version users to access shadow copies according to time filters
, and provides a unified interface to explore and export them. Today, I have a similar application for users of Windows 7 editions who need a third party solution. The application is as called Z-VSSCopy
and allows you to perform even simpler administration of shadow copies.
Slideshows are a great way to display, as well as share pictures with others. You must have seen hundreds of videos on YouTube containing a picture slide with some cool music track in the background. Previously, we have covered some great slideshow creators, including Slideshow Creator
which allow you to create video slideshows of photo albums in minutes with effects, audio tracks and captions. However, they lack the options to control the time an image appears in the slideshow, and are not capable of including videos in your creation. This is where our new find, ezvid,
comes in. It is a slideshow creating tool for Windows that allows you to generate slideshows from images and videos, put an audio track in the background and record narration over it. It also allows you to increase or decrease the time each image appears on the screen before switching to the next one. You may add a text tile and upload the slideshow to YouTube directly from the application.
Probably, one of the very useful inventions of mankind are Bar-codes . Bar-codes are machine-readable, data-encoded images that contains user-specified pieces of information related to an item, requiring a special equipment or scanner to extract such information. Barcodes, albeit introduced back in 60s, didn't come to mainstream usage up until the last couple of decades. Barcodes are similar to UPC (Universal Product Code) which you find on various tangible product packages. A barcode can contain any type of data, ranging from the price of an item, the URL of a webpage, to the download link of a mobile app. They are not only quite convenient for the end user to use, but also help in keeping the embedded information secure and immune to any manipulation. Barcodes are now being used a lot in the form of QR codes (made famous by extensive use in Android Market), to distribute links among users. Usually squarish in shape, they usually comprise of three small squares at the corners. Previously, we have covered some very good QR code generators, such as BarCode Generator, which allows you to generate and export QR code images in multiple formats
. Today we have another QR code generator called Free QR Creator
, that allows you to quickly and efficiently create QR code and Micro QR codes. The application supports output in BMP, JPG, PNG, GIF, TIFF and EMF image formats.

Needless to say, Fluid functions as a web browser but instead of allowing you to universally explore the internet, it is meant to browse sites that you’ve added. The app uses a website’s favicon as the Dock icon to distinguish different sites.

They done so by either blank out the screen, or fill it with moving pictures after a specified time of inactivity on the computer. Collage is a technique used in art that involves creating an image by using a number of other images, or forms. A collage is not only confined to creating an image using other images; you can use newspaper cuttings, images, text, photographs, parts of other artwork, and basically anything you can find to create a collage. For instance, if you have a collection of, say, a thousand images, using a collage making application, you can align them in any form offered by the application in order to create a beautiful looking collage out of them. When developing a website, it is a major concern for web designers that the font should be displayed in the correct and desired size and style on the webpage. For instance, if you want to create a webpage with all the titles in the same font, you can specify your desired font in the HTML document, but it will not ensure that the particular font will be displayed correctly on everyone else’s computer, and more notably, on every browser. The other user might not have the same set of fonts installed in their computers as you, resulting in messing up the look of your webpage. One solution to this problem is creating images of your text, and uploading these images instead of plain text to your webpage. TextImages
is an application for doing just that. Read more on TextImages after the break.

The rate at which technology is moving is simply unprecedented. One sector where it has made so much progress is distribution of image, audio and video content. Image and video hardware, and software are making leaps in technological advancement each day. Similar to our move from SD to HD content, latest of the major breakthroughs being the 3D technology in images and videos. Although first introduced in cinemas (IMAX or Real 3D), 3D technology has finally made its way to consumer electronics. Now we can see both photos and videos in breath-taking 3D. 3D technology works by providing a slightly different image to each of your eyes, mimicking the actual vision if the object was placed in front of a person. The brain works and fuses the images together, creating the illusion of depth, i.e., 3rd dimension. Even though tech pundits still don't call it the real 3D, its still something which is making progress by leaps and bounds. Did you buy a new 3D screen and now want to experience all those snaps you took in Sydney, in 3D? We have a software for you that might come in handy. Meet Free 3D Photo Maker
, an application that lets you create 3D images from normal 2D images using either two images, or a single image using algorithms such as Optimized Anaglyph, Color Anaglyph, True Anaglyph, Gray Anaglyph and Yellow-Blue Anaglyph.
