Minutely For iPhone Offers 3D Weather Maps & Per-Minute Crowdsourced Updates

The concept behind SkyMotion seemed really revolutionary when we covered it back in December. After all, it is pretty cool  to see an app come up with weather forecasts that get live updates after every few minutes. As great as SkyMotion is, it is relying on weather stations to gather all its data. While weather data from different agencies can be pretty accurate, there’s nothing like getting a human being to tell you the weather conditions of a city. We have seen this idea put to good use in Ourcast, which uses crowdsourcing in conjunction with weather data from professional sources to bring users the most accurate weather reports from around the world. The team behind Ourcast has now gone a step further by releasing a new app by the name of Minutely. This app is pretty similar to Ourcast but with Minutely, you get stats like the exact time when it is expected to start raining in your area, or the time remaining until the rain finally stops. In addition to all that, you also get 3D weather maps that look stunning and show weather conditions at a glance. Read More

Sol For iPhone Compares The Weather Of Mars With That Of Your City

Apps like Star Rover offer a lot of information regarding space and the universe on the whole. The way augmented reality plays a major role in most space-related apps clearly shows that the genre has the potential of expanding way beyond its present status of being a mere novelty. For now, however, there are a lot of limitations when it comes to apps dealing with the cosmos. You might be able to glean the name of a distant object from Star Rover, but the data is rarely real-time, and acts as nothing more than an interactive encyclopedia. There is no easy way of learning a planet’s current temperature just by looking at it on a map, but you aren't likely to find an entry for Jupiter in Yahoo! Weather either. Now though, someone has come up with the idea of developing a weather app that is capable of showing current weather stats from both Earth and Mars. Sol has a great interface, and collects weather data for Mars from the Curiosity rover that landed on the red planet last year. Read More

WeatherSignal Uses Android Device Sensors To Read & Crowdsource Local Weather Info

Weather can't always be  predicted accurately since it can changes quite fast and unexpectedly. When and where you get your weather report is also important but weather forecasts are for a set period of time. They aren't always updated constantly at every source and often, one of the best ways to get an accurate and live weather report is from social media. WeatherSignal is an Android app that tackles accurate weather predictions by crowd-sourcing them. The app uses the built-in sensors in your device (some features are limited to certain handsets) and allows you to measure the temperature, humidity, air pressure, magnetic flux and more. You can also submit your own weather report. The report will only ask you if it's raining, snowing, hailing, etc. Each one of the reports that WeatherSignal generates can be added as a widget to your screen. Read More

Get A More Info-Laden Weather Widget In iPhone Notification Center

Much has been written and said about how useful jailbreaking iOS devices is, and even a bug in evasi0n is now turning out to be a blessing in disguise. Prior to the iOS 6 jailbreak, the stock Weather app was rarely discussed, since it always got the job done without exactly being brilliant. As soon as evasi0n caused the crashing issues for Weather, a flurry of tweaks and apps belonging to this genre started appearing all over the place. Recently, Yahoo! released a weather app of its own, heating up the competitive air even further. Having said that, it’s not like there weren't any good weather apps around for iOS prior to evasi0n. Weather Underground is a pretty good example of an excellent weather app for iPhone, but it has a shortcoming that puts it at a disadvantage when pitted against the stock Weather app. No third-party app in iOS can have a NC widget of its own, which means that you have no choice but to launch the app if you want to see what the current temperature and other conditions are. Not anymore! WeatherUnderground For Notification Center might only be a third-party widget, but it has all the information you are ever likely to want in the NC. Read More

Open Yahoo! Weather From Stock iOS Weather App Icon Or NC Widget

Whenever a Cydia tweak lets you replace a stock iOS app with a third-party one, it is usually a sign that the third-party app has got things right. We saw this happen after Google Chrome was released in the App Store, and now a similar option is available for the new Yahoo! Weather app as well. As we pointed out in our review of the new app a few days back, the Yahoo! app offers a lot more than the stock Weather app in iOS. It has beauty, shows you some amazing details regarding current weather conditions, and even lets you see the latest satellite maps to get an even better idea of the weather conditions for any region. Despite all this awesomeness, there are a few things that might have stopped some users from completely switching to Yahoo! Weather. The biggest problem is that the Notification Center widget still directs users to the stock iOS app, but if you have a jailbroken iDevice, this issue can now be resolved thanks to the Yahoo! Weather Is Better Cydia tweak. Read More

Overlay Weather & Location Info On Photos In Windows Phone With Ciel

To varying extents, all photos capture the essence of the moment when they were snapped, but there are times when you need to add some written information to the image in order to ensure that anyone who views it can gauge the environment in which the photo was taken. iOS has apps like InstaPlace and InstaWeather for this purpose, while Android has CamWeather. These type of apps usually offer certain templates that let you overlay real-time weather and location info on your photos. Ciel does the same for Windows Phone users, but the number of templates it offers make the app more than a match for similar apps on other platforms. Ciel has readymade overlay effects that deal with weather, location, lifestyle or a mixture of all of these. The sharing options are pretty good as well, while the app's integration with Foursquare ensures availability of data on all nearby places. Read More

Yahoo! Weather For iPhone Wows With Gorgeous UI, Maps & Detailed Stats

The stock Weather app in iOS gets all its data from Yahoo!, but the app’s interface and features are Apple’s doing. While that partnership is still going strong, Yahoo! has just decided to show what a really good weather app can look like on the OS. Yahoo! Weather is anything but just another app released in a crowded genre of the App Store. It has an interface to die for, and is no slouch in terms of features either. The app has unique backgrounds for most locations you add to it, and also makes it possible to view a detailed weather map of any area you want. The app supports a few basic gestures to keep accessing its features as easy as possible. Read More

View Real-Time Weather Info On Any Stock iOS App’s Icon

We have seen iOS weather apps that change color with changes in temperature, and then there is Sun - a web app designed for iPhone that has an icon capable of displaying the current temperature in your area. All these apps are great, but most iOS users don’t like turning to third-party solutions if the stock apps are good enough. A testament to this fact is that a lot of people stopped looking for weather apps as soon the evad3rs released a fix for the Weather app crashing issue. The stock Weather app looks pretty good, specially in iOS 6 but ever since updating, I have been missing WeatherIcon - the tweak that brings the Weather app’s icon to life, and also lets you view the current weather stats on the iPhone status bar. Almost all major tweaks have gained iOS 6 compatibility during the course of the past few months and thankfully, WeatherIcon 6 brings the much sought-after weather tweak to the latest iOS firmware version as well. Add Stylized Weather Info To Photos With CamWeather For Android

We have seen countless weather apps with several different approaches, but CamWeather delivers on what has crossed my mind quite a few times, and I’m sure there would be others out there too who have wanted something like this. The app works on a simple yet novel idea - it fuses local weather and social elements together, enabling users to share not just the weather for their location with others, but also add a picture to it for their friends to see. In short, let's say you're out on a vacation and want to share with others how it is there; you run CamWeather, take a photo, overlay your location and weather information on it, and share away via Instagram, Facebook and more. With several weather layout presets and an interface that even a child can easily understand and use, the app gives a whole new dimension to weather info sharing. Read More

Forecast Is A Mobile-Optimised Weather Web App With Precipitation Maps

After being the only web app pinned to my iPhone’s SpringBoard for exactly a month, the Sun weather app finally has some competition. The newly launched Forecast might not be as colorful and good-looking as some of the other apps already available for smartphones, but it can certainly hold its own when it comes to uniqueness and features. Forecast is a web app but unlike Sun, it works on both desktop and mobile devices. Both versions are a bit different of course, but their core functionality remains the same. In addition to the usual weather data you can find in any app of this genre, Forecast offers animated weather indicators, access to weather archives of any location, and a precipitation chart that can be used to track the movement of clouds around the world. Breezy Is A Minimal But Beautiful Modern UI Weather App For Windows 8

Although Windows 8 and RT contain a stock weather app capable of showing a full five day forecast for your selected locations, there are also various third-party options available on Windows Store from a number of developers. We have previously covered a multitudes of Modern UI weather apps, but we've never come across something as simple and elegant as Breezy. Where many other apps try to copy HTC Sense-like features and weather animations, Breezy’s grandeur lies in its minimalism and simplicity, as it showcases the weather conditions with the help of simple looking weather icons. The app is also powered by Dark Sky weather prediction, which enables it to tell hourly and daily forecast conditions in advance, though this feature is available in US territories only. Read More

Sun Is A Weather Web App for iOS With Detailed Forecast & Colorful UI

Many people favor minimalistic apps for simple tasks over those that seem to include everything but the kitchen sink, and no genre is coming up with more apps in this style than weather. Just a few days ago we covered the Sky app for iOS, and now there is a worthy competitor for it out for iPhone users. This new release matches Sky in its conciseness for the choice of name, and surpasses it in most areas of functionality. Sun is just an iOS-optimized web app, rather than a new entry in the App Store, but it is good enough to give any native app a run for its money in terms of smoothness and interface. There some striking similarities between Sky and Sun when it comes to the interface, but Sun offers a lot more than the former. For starters, Sun features a very thorough weather forecast in form of a graph. The app is highly customizable in terms of background colors and the choice of units, and its chameleon-like Home screen icon displays the current temperature as well! Read More

Sky Is A Minimal iPhone Weather App That Changes Background Color With Temperature

Most people who rushed to the evasi0n jailbreak soon after its release got hit by the Weather app’s crashing issue. Although the evad3rs have since fixed the issue, losing access to the stock Weather app forced many people to look for alternatives. Maybe this is why some really good weather apps have been showing up in the App Store lately. Sky is the latest to join an already impressive collection of weather-related apps for iOS. The app doesn’t offer much in terms of features and customizations, but is perfect for anyone who admires minimalism. Most people want a weather app that gives them adequate information in a single view, and Sky does just that. The app displays any area’s current temperature, an icon depicting the current conditions, and a dynamic, colored background. Read More

Fix iOS 6 evasi0n Jailbreak Weather App Crashing & Long Boot Issue In A Few Taps

Evasi0n has to be the easiest jailbreaking tool to use since comex’s JailbreakMe. All you need to do to get Cydia on your iOS device is to connect said device to your PC, click on “Jailbreak” in evasi0n, and tap on the “Jailbreak” icon from your iOS device. No need providing IPSW files or going into DFU Mode. However, some users are facing multiple bugs post-jailbreak like the lockdown error that can be fixed through the method we talked about yesterday, and of course, the issue of the stock Weather app crashing incessantly, and that long reboot error that causes iOS devices to be stuck at the Apple boot logo. Well, there’s good news: fixes for both issues have arrived! Read More

Fix Weather App Crash Issue After iOS 6, 6.1 Jailbreak With evasi0n

With nearly 2 million downloads within a couple of days of its release, the evasi0n iOS 6 jailbreak has been a huge success so far, but it is far from being perfect. In the past, there haven’t been too many bugs associated with jailbreak tools, but there have been a few hiccups this time round. Right after the evasi0n release, the Cydia store faced numerous issues. Furthermore, a lot of tweaks haven’t been updated to work with iOS 6.x yet, and there are reports of problems with App Store. Apart from all this, the jailbreak broke the stock Weather app for many people. While Saurik was quick to fix all Cydia-related issues, the Weather app is still crashing. evad3rs have promised that a fix is on the way, and will be released in the Cydia store pretty soon. If you cannot wait that long however, there is a way of taking matters into your own hands. Read More

SKYE For iPhone Combines Weather Forecasts With Photos From Your Area

A weather app can rarely be labeled exciting and unique these days, since there are so many of them available in the iOS App Store, with most of them differing from their competitors only in terms of interface. While SKYE Weather+Photo offers a decent interface too, the app’s real uniqueness lies in the fact that it mixes a bit of photo sharing with weather. You get to provide your own feedback related to weather and can also view weather conditions of the cities most of your friends live in. SKYE lets you overlay the current weather information on any photo, and post it to the app’s network. These photos also act as part of the background for the weather page of your current location.
