Previously we reported that official Android 2.3 Gingerbread is rolling out for unbranded HTC Desire handsets following a strict IMEI validation protocol. Well this proved to be a partially fake story as none of our valuable subscribers were able to get any OTA notification. However we did have a reason to believe at that time because there were almost 3 threads in XDA forums started by senior members all confirming HTC’s chat support validating the GB upgrade. But things have changed since then and now the official Android 2.3 Gingerbread is uploaded at official HTC Developer center for developers to experiment their apps, ROMs etc.

Finally the wait is over for HTC Desire owners waiting for the official Android 2.3 Gingerbread update. Multiple sources, including XDA and some other Android portals, confirm that Gingerbread awesomeness is on the roll now and all unbranded HTC Desire handsets are eligible for this update. Couple of days back, HTC announced that Desire [bravo] Android phone won’t be getting updated to Android 2.3 Gingerbread officially. The reason presented by HTC on their Facebook page regarding no Gingerbread for Desire isn’t going to convince many in buying it straight away. According to HTC, the main reason for discontinuing any further firmware updated on HTC Desire is some “memory” that won’t allow a complete HTC Sense interface integration on Gingerbread.
