Quick Performance Monitor is a 3rd party opensource tool which is an alternative to Perfmon and also much easier to use. For those who don’t know, Perfmon is an advanced full blown performance monitoring tool in Windows which can be complicated to use for many users. Performance Monitor in Windows 7 can be accessed by typing perfmon is Start Search.
Quick Performance Monitor will show the performance of Processor by default . More performance counters can be added easily (see usage on developer’s page). It supports a number of command line parameters and can also be launched from batch files, shortcuts, and qpmset files.
The program is fully customizable. To take a quick glance at the performance of your processor, memory, and physical disk, make a shortcut on the desktop and start it with the following parameters:
QPerfMon.exe “.\Processor\% Processor Time\_Total” “.\Memory\% Committed Bytes In Use\\” “.\Memory\Pages/sec\\0.1” “.\PhysicalDisk\Avg. Disk Queue Length\_Total\100” -title:Test
It is a portable tool that works on Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7. We tested it on Windows 7 32-bit system.
