GTA 6 Release Date, Trailer, and Sneak Peek at the Map
Grand Theft Auto 5 was released in 2013. 2013! Needless to say, gamers have been waiting a loooong time for another title in the series. While we’ve heard snippets here and there about the development of the next game, we finally have news of a GTA 6 release date. Read on to get all the current details including gameplay and if you can take an early look at the map.
GTA 6 Release Date – Is it Delayed?
GTA 6 was originally targeting a fall 2025 launch window, confirmed by Take-Two Interactive in a financial report. However, those early delay rumors turned out to be true. Rockstar Games officially announced that the game has been pushed out of its 2025 window and is now scheduled to release on November 19, 2026.
Rockstar Games is a publishing label of Take-Two Interactive Software. The November 19, 2026 date represents the latest official confirmation from Rockstar, giving players a firm target to look forward to after a long wait. If you’re already planning ahead, keep an eye on GTA 6 pre-order details as more official information becomes available. As with any major title of this scale, it’s worth keeping an eye on Rockstar’s official Newswire for any further updates as that date approaches.
GTA 6 Release Date Timeline
For readers trying to make sense of the shifting dates, here is a clear breakdown of how the GTA 6 release date has evolved — and, if you’re also tracking GTA 6 pre-order news, each entry is labeled so you can distinguish confirmed information from speculation:
- Initial fall 2025 launch window (official Rockstar/Take-Two announcement): When GTA 6 was first officially unveiled, Rockstar and Take-Two confirmed a broad fall 2025 release window, generating enormous excitement among fans worldwide.
- 2025 window reaffirmed (investor-guidance update): Take-Two Interactive reiterated the fall 2025 target in subsequent financial guidance, reassuring investors and fans that the timeline remained on track.
- Delay into 2026 confirmed (official Rockstar announcement): Rockstar Games officially announced that GTA 6 would not be releasing in 2025. The game was pushed into 2026 — a confirmed delay, not a rumor.
- November 19, 2026 locked in (official Rockstar announcement): Rockstar subsequently confirmed November 19, 2026 as the exact release date, giving players and retailers a firm launch target for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
Will GTA 6 be cross-platform?
Is there a release date for GTA 6? We know, yes-ish. But will it be cross-platform? No idea. Yet. Historically, the Grand Theft Auto franchise has not supported cross-platform gaming. However, the online multiplayer aspects have been so popular that perhaps GTA 6 would be a good opportunity to start crossplay capabilities. Fingers crossed.
Speaking of platforms, is GTA 6 coming to PC? Not anytime soon. Rockstar has officially said the game will be coming to PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Perhaps sometime down the road it will get a PC release too.
Grand Theft Auto Gameplay
Other than the trailer and the GTA 6 release date, Rockstar hasn’t yet revealed much about the upcoming title. That said, in 2022 a hacker stole and posted videos of the developing game, leaking it without permission from Take-Two or Rockstar. Much of the leaked footage has been taken down due to copyright infringement, but there are some things that were gleaned from the leak and also the trailer itself. Here’s a few things we know:
- It will be open-world and take place in Leonida and Vice City
- It will feature a Bonnie and Clyde-esque duo — Jason and Lucia — as the two confirmed leads. The official premise sees a job go wrong, pulling the pair into a criminal conspiracy stretching across Leonida
- It seems to take place in modern times, rather than the original GTA which took place in the 1980s
- Possible stealth capabilities, such as crawling to avoid being seen
- Some previous game mechanics may be returning, such as the weapon wheel
- Wanted level that increases as you commit more crimes
- More interiors than previous games, such as the insides of buildings and cars
GTA 6 Map & Location
Leonida is basically a fictional version of Florida and Vice City is a fictional homage to Miami. GTA 6 will take place here, both in and outside of Vice City, which will be a larger play area than other titles within the franchise. Here is the official trailer where you can get a better look for yourself.
To cut through the noise, here is what Rockstar has actually confirmed versus what remains fan speculation:
Officially confirmed by Rockstar:
- The game is set in Vice City, Rockstar’s fictional take on Miami
- Vice City sits within the broader fictional state of Leonida, modeled on Florida
- The game takes place in modern times
- Rockstar has described GTA 6’s world as the biggest and most immersive evolution of the Grand Theft Auto series to date
Not officially confirmed by Rockstar:
- The full map layout — no official map has been published by Rockstar
- Community-reconstructed maps built from leaked footage coordinates — these are fan interpretations, not Rockstar-published data
- Any other specific geographic or structural details derived from leaks rather than official Rockstar sources
While future players are eagerly waiting, it’s important to know that there is no actual official game map released yet. That hasn’t stopped people from trying to make one, though. Remember all that leaked footage mentioned earlier? During this leaked gameplay there were actually coordinates on the screen. Eager gaming detectives actually took this footage and mapped them out to form a speculative map that has the possibility to be fairly accurate. They even noted and tracked the building names from the game. Needless to say, it probably took a lot of work.
Because of how impressive this was, many sources took it to be actual, official data and sourced the map as being from Rockstar. It is not. From the trailer and the leaked footage, however, there seem to be a lot of real-life locations depicted. Between that and the on-screen coordinates, the fan made map has the potential to be pretty accurate. Time will tell.
How much will GTA 6 cost?
No official price was named with the GTA 6 release date, but typically new titles with such a high budget cost around $70 USD. Pricing may also vary depending on the available GTA 6 editions. That said, rumors tend to gather when it comes to Grand Theft Auto 6. Many players are worried that, because of the size of the game and how much has been spent developing it, that they will be expected to pay over $100.
Hopefully this is just misinformation, as that tends to run rampant with GTA 6 news. That said, with the way the current economy is, it wouldn’t be surprising to be price gouged for a video game on top of everything else. Cross your fingers that this rumor falls by the wayside like so many others. Though with fans impatient with how long it has taken for GTA to finally be finished, a steep price tag like that may actually work. While waiting for GTA 6, players can still enjoy features from the previous game, such as learning how to sell cars in GTA 5 to make some extra in-game cash.
