Chronos Kodi Addon: Stream German-Language Content Online on Kodi

It seems that Kodi developers are finally realising that there is a large audience of users out there who are looking for something more than the usual English-language movies and TV shows. Content in other languages also has a huge following and a growing number of developers are finally beginning to jump on this bandwagon. So it is with the new Chronos Kodi addon which is targeted primarily at the German-speaking markets of central and eastern Europe.

The Chronos Kodi addon bills itself as an all-in-one addon which offers primarily, but not exclusively, German language content. But it is not just confined to German TV and movies. There is a whole section dedicated to Austrian content too, while a new Bulgarian section is currently being tested. There is plenty in the Chronos addon to explore, and this guide we are going to tell you everything you need to know to find your way around. We will also provide a simple step-by-step guide to downloading and installing the Chronos addon onto your Kodi system too.

Before you download the Chronos Kodi addon – Install a VPN

If you are planning to stream content on an unofficial Kodi addon such as Chronos, we strongly advise that you are using a VPN first. This is because some Kodi users have found themselves in receipt of legal threats by copyright holders for streaming content on unofficial addons such as Chronos which they claim is being made available in breach of copyright content. A few users have received legal letters or even faced further legal sanctions just for using these addons. But a VPN offers you some protection. A VPN encrypts all of your online data and helps to hide your real IP Address while streaming content on Kodi addons. This means your online activity is kept private and safe from prying eyes. A VPN is undoubtedly an essential online tool for Kodi users these days and the main question Kodi users are asking is not whether to use a VPN, but rather which VPN to choose. It is a question we can offer some help with.

The Best VPN for Kodi – IPVanish

IPVanish offers fast and consistent connection speeds which are ideal for Kodi users. It also combines these speeds with super-strong encryption and excellent privacy protections too, including a no user logs guarantee that you can depend on. IPVanish has a sizable server network consisting of more than 850 servers in 60 countries around the world. This network allows Kodi users to unlock content from all over the world which can be great if you are streaming overseas content.

IPVanish has no restrictions on either file types or data amounts you can use, which is perfect as streaming is data intensive and many addons employ different types of files. They have dedicated apps for almost every device you might want to run Kodi on too, including the Amazon Firestick. So, if you want a VPN which offers everything you need to run Kodi addons such as Chronos safely and securely, it is hard to look beyond IPVanish right now.

IPVanish offers a 7-day money back guarantee which means you have a week to test it risk-free. Please note that Addictive Tips readers can save a massive 60% here on the IPVanish annual plan, taking the monthly price down to only $4.87/mo.

How to install the Chronos Kodi addon

Chronos is a new addon and as such the developers have chosen to follow the recent trend of not placing it in an established repository. Instead, they have opted to make this addon available through their own repository which is known as SkyDarks. This is a small repository with only a handful of other addons available and Chronos is clearly the main one. But regardless of the scale of the repository, downloading and installing the Chronos addon is a pretty straightforward process. All you have to do is follow this simple step-by-step guide:

  1. Open Kodi and click on the Settings icon. This looks like a gear wheel and can be found in the top left of the screen.
  2. Click on the File Manager tab which can be found in the centre at the bottom of the screen. Then double-click on Add Source which you will see in the left-hand column of the next screen.
  3. A pop-up box will appear with Add File Source as its title. Click where it says <None> and then enter the following URL exactly: https://www.skydarks.com/skydarks. Click OK and then give this new source a name, such as SkyDarks, before clicking OK again.
  4. Go back to the Kodi home page and this time click Addons.
  5. Now, click the Addon Browser icon. This looks like an open box and can be found in the top left of the screen.
  6. Click on Install from zip file, then select SkyDarks and click on a file called repository.skydarks-X.X.zip. Click OK and this will install the SkyDarks Repository onto your Kodi. A notification message will appear in the top right of your screen when this process has been completed.
  7. Now go back to the Addon browser menu and this time click Install from repository. Then scroll down the page to find the SkyDarks repository.
  8. Open it and then click Video addons. Click on the Chronos addon, which is the first addon listed, and then click Install. This will download and install the Chronos addon onto your Kodi device You will again receive a notification in the top right of the screen when it has been installed successfully.
  9. Return to the Kodi home screen and click on Add-ons again. The Chronos addon will should be listed under Video Addons and ready to use!

Chronos Kodi addon review

The new Chronos Kodi addon is focused primarily on German-language content, so if you are a German speaker it is one that is well worth taking a look at. The developers are also well aware that German is spoken beyond the borders of Germany too as there is a whole section dedicated to Austrian content too. It is an all-in-one addon, so you will find movies and TV shows as well as live TV feeds and other content besides. One slight curiosity is that the menus of this addon are in English. This seems like a curious decision given that the target demographic is supposedly German speakers, but nevertheless, let’s take a look at what the Chronos addon has to offer:

Latest Movies

This section is presumably intended to be the home to links for new release movies, but at the time of testing, there were no links available. It is always disappointing to find the top menu item to be empty or not working and this is something the developers need to address urgently.

Daily TV Shows

This is another section which contains no content at the moment. In time, it will presumably include links to the latest episodes of German TV shows. Again, the developer needs to work quickly to get this section populated.

Live TV

This is the place to come for IPTV links to live TV channel streams. At the time of testing, there were 59 links available which is a pretty modest selection compared to some other addons. The focus on German language content also appears to have waned a little here too. There were no more than a handful of German channels when we tested it, with most content being from the USA or Canada.

Sports

This is the home to live sports links in the Chronos addon, but again the focus on German language content is missing. Indeed, there was very little content available at all at the time of testing. Just four sports channels were listed and they were the MLB Network, NFL Now, Tuff TV, and the WWE Network.

Hockey

Quite why hockey needs its own item on the main menu is a little unclear. Maybe the developers of this addon are fans of Ice Hockey. There are certainly links to plenty of different Ice Hockey Leagues here, including the NHL of course. All leagues appear to be based in the USA or Canada though (many are junior leagues) and each link leads to a list of live streams that are available in the near future.

Austria

The Austria section finally sees the Chronos addon focusing on what it does well. There are currently links to seven Austrian TV channels here, with more presumably to follow. These links all work well and open up reliable streams of each channel with a single click.

Bulgaria

At the time we were testing this addon, the Bulgaria section was still in test mode. This is presumably why there was just one link to a Bulgarian TV channel available. Hopefully, more will follow soon.

Germany

The German TV section contains 13 links to TV networks at the time of testing. Like the Austrian section, all links worked well and streams began with a single click. Again, it is to be hoped that more links will follow, but there is a good base of content already available.

Radio

This section links to a number of streams of radio stations. At present, there are just 22 available and again these are not focused on German language content. They are mostly from the USA or Canada which is a shame. But all the links did work well which is to the developer’s credit.

Acestreams

This sections links to Acestream links for 15 different sports channels. They seem to work well but again there is no German content. Quite why this section needs a separate main menu option and isn’t included in the Sports category is not clear.

Chronos Kodi addon Pros and Cons

Pros

Chronos is a little lacking in focus on what it wants to offer, but there are still some things it does very well. If you want links to live streams of German language TV channels, then it has some good content. Their links are broken down by country, with Germany and Austria catered for so far and a Bulgarian option in test phase. All the links work well and play with a single click, which is good. There is also a good section of hockey streams too. But quite how these sections come together within a single addon is unclear.

It is also a bit of a misnomer to bill the Chronos addon as an all-in-one because frankly, the bulk of the content is IPTV links. There are menu options to sections that presumably are intended to contain on-demand links but, at the time of testing, the bulk of these were unpopulated. For IPTV content, Chronos offers good stable links to both German-language and hockey content.

Cons

The main menu of the Chronos addon is frankly a bit of a mess. The very fact that the top two items have no content links at all is a schoolboy error and new visitors to this addon may be tempted to exit and delete the addon straight away. We wouldn’t recommend this, but wouldn’t blame them either and it is something the developers need to address as their top priority.

The rest of the menu is a bit of a hotchpotch of content and frankly, Chronos is an addon that would benefit from paring back its content and focusing on doing a couple of things well. Why, for example, does ice hockey get its own section but no other sport. And if this addon really is targeting German language audiences, why are the other sections full of English language content. There is worthwhile content available in the Chronos addon, but the whole addon would benefit from being tightened up.

Conclusions

If you are looking for good quality German language IPTV links or reliable links to live streams of ice hockey content, the Chronos is worth taking a look at. It does these two things well, although it is not clear why it is these two sections alone which work so well. If you are coming to Chronos looking for an all-in-one addon and hoping for good links to movies and TV content then frankly, you are better off looking elsewhere. The Chronos developers would be better off deciding if they want their addon to be a hockey addon, a German language addon, or an all-in-one addon. At the moment it appears to be trying to be all three and it is certainly not succeeding as well as it might
