It is often said that you need to have steady hands to be a good photographer, but there are times when you just can’t hold your camera straight to get that perfect shot. You might be in a moving vehicle, one of your hands might be busy elsewhere, or perhaps you might just want to make sure that the photo you snapp really is the best possible shot of the scene you are trying to capture. While professional photographers have tripods and a number of other gadgets for keeping their camera steady, iPhone owners can now use the amazing AiCamera app to snap perfectly aligned photos. You might be wondering how a mere app can keep your iPhone from moving during a photography session. Of course, AiCamera can’t do that; it captures an image only when your device is at a perfectly horizontal level, meaning there won’t be any skewed images in your camera roll. Even better, the app isn’t only meant for snapping photos, but for shooting videos as well.
AiCamera has three main modes: camera, video and AI. Camera mode indicates whenever your device is at the appropriate level for shooting, but the user still has to capture the image manually by hitting the button in the middle of the bottom bar. When in video mode, being on the correct level initiates the capture but after that, the indicator is only there to visually assist you, without interfering with the recording in any way. AI mode is the most useful feature of the app, as you might already have guessed by the name. If you can’t keep your device steady, just go for AI and the app will capture images automatically every time the level is right. You can switch between all three modes of AiCamera using the gear icon in the bottom bar.
To get the level right, there are four types of level indicators offered by AiCamera. The default one is ‘Circle’, while the other three include ‘Half Glass’, ‘Puppy’ and ‘Bar’. The app also supports overlay grid and cross for the screen. Another minor feature is the ability to customize the shutter sound, with four options available in that regard.
To make AiCamera a complete replacement for the stock iOS Camera app, there are buttons for controlling flash and switching between front / rear cams. The app doesn’t have an image gallery of its own since all the videos and photos go straight to the camera roll, but you can take a look at the last image snapped using AiCamera by hitting the small icon in the bottom-left corner of the screen.
AiCamera is optimized for iPhone and iPod touch, and you can download it for free using the link below.
