Pinterest For Android & iOS Gets Push Notifications, Mentions & Auto-Suggestions

Pinterest hasn’t been around for as long as some of the other social networks, but its popularity is evident from the fact that a lot of services have been trying to emulate its concept and interface. The official Pinterest client arrived for Android only last year, but lacked many of the features that are necessary for making such a mobile app successful these days. There were no push notifications, creating new posts was a bit tricky and it wasn’t possible to mention your friends in comments on pins. It was a similar story for the iOS variant, as both apps have only minor differences. Finally though, the Pinterest team has rolled out an update for their mobile clients that addresses most of the issues we just mentioned.

Pinterest should display an alert regarding push notifications when the app is launched for the first time after updating. Though in case that doesn’t happen or you dismiss it, you can configure everything by going directly to the app’s settings. The newly added notifications are shown whenever any Pinterest users leaves some feedback on one of your posts, or repins something you published on a board.

A great addition to Pinterest for iOS is the ability to share pins with users who are on Facebook or Twitter. You can also copy a pin’s link and then share it through other means. The Android variant of Pinterest already had the universal sharing feature.

Pinterest for Android and iOS has always had a prominent search tab, and it is nice to see that it has become better than before in the latest update of the app. Pinterest search has been enhanced with autosuggestions, with results including both keywords and user profiles.

When commenting on a pin or board, you can add a mention of any user by typing the ‘@’ symbol followed by the name of the desired user. Similarly, it is now possible to invite your friends to collaborate on your group boards. To cap the changes off, the option to pin images from the web has become more efficient and quickly lists all the photos found on the provided link.

The overall look-and-feel of Pinterest hasn’t changed a great deal, as it already had a pretty decent UI. It is possible to get a taste of all the aforementioned changes for both Android and iOS by updating the app on your device, or heading to the appropriate link below.
