How to Catch a Shark in Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Animal Crossing is one game that immerses you in fun, rewarding activities you’d never think of attempting in real life. In New Horizons, catching a shark is one of those crazy things you can do in the life simulation world.

Interestingly, you can do a myriad of things with a shark: sell it for some quick bucks (Bells), donate it to a museum, or even exhibit it somewhere on your island for the amusement of other players visiting your island.

If it’s your first time, the guide here will walk you through how to catch a fish in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Read on below to find out.

Catching a Shark in Animal Crossing New Horizons

Catching a shark in New Horizons is similar to the traditional way of catching fish in Animal Crossing, as discussed here. The only caveat is that sharks are elusive and can be pretty challenging to nab, especially for first-timers.

However, catching one will only be a piece of cake with the right tool and information in your hand. Speaking of tools, you need a rod to get started. We have an intelligible guide for that too here.

Once you have your rod, the next action in line is to study when, where, and how sharks spun in the game. There are four sharks in New Horizons, and each type is spun based on season, location, and time of the day. You need precision in this regard. The images below will help you understand better:

With that out of the way, here’s how to catch a shark in Animal Crossing: New Horizons:

  • Go to the edge of your island and face the water. You want to avoid running so you don’t scare the fish away with the sound and vibration from your footsteps
  • Wait and look out for the shadows of fishes. The one with a fin sticking out of the water suggests a shark. But sharks are rare, so you might have to wait longer to spot one. Just be patient
  • Once you’ve spotted a shark, cast the rod’s line such that the bobber lands before the shark
  • If you get it right, the shark will nibble your bobber, prompting a vibration on your controller
  • Hit the action button to nab the shark
  • Repeat the process if you’re unable to catch one on the first try

If you do it successfully, the game will display the shark on your screen, celebrating your catch. What you do with it after this is totally up to you. I personally like to show it off on my island should I have some friends coming over.
