How To Unblock A Number On iPhones And iPads

Unblocking blocked contacts on your iPhone and iPad is easy through settings and contact information. We’ll go over everything so it will be easy to update your contacts the way you like. After all, there’s plenty of reasons to block phone numbers, but every now and then you may change your mind.

On the other hand, if you find yourself on someone’s bad side, here’s how to call someone who blocked you. Most of the time, however, blocked numbers are because we’re sick of robocalls. If you’ve ever been curious about these telemarketers, here’s why no one is there when you answer unknown callers.

How to unblock a number on iPhone

Here are the different methods to access and rectify your blocked contacts.

Unblock a phone number through your settings app:

  1. Open settings.

  2. Scroll down to your phone app and tap the icon.

  3. Look down to find and tap the “blocked contacts.”

  4. There will be a list of blocked contacts by phone number. To the top right corner of this list is the “edit” option. Tap edit.

  5. A red circle now appears to the left of the entire block list. Tap the circle of the contact you want to unblock. A red square with the word, “unblock” will appear on the right. Tap unblock this caller to once again allow that contact to make calls and texts to your iPhone.

Other ways to unblock on your iPhone

You can also get to your blocked contacts list through the phone app on your apple home screen. Here’s how:

  1. Find the green phone app icon and tap it.

  2. Go to contacts and tap the icon.

  3. Tap “recents” at the bottom of the screen. A recent calls list will appear.

  4. Scroll down until you find the number you blocked. On the right side you’ll see a circle with an “i” that you’ll then tap.

  5. This opens the person’s information. Near the bottom is the option to “unblock this caller.” Tap unblock to once again allow them to make phone calls to you, text, or FaceTime.

Unblock contacts through texts

Sometimes you may not have phone numbers stored in your contacts list and you want to unblock someone who had sent you a text message.

  1. Go to your text icon on your iPhone screen and tap.
  2. You’ll see a list of your recent texts. Find the text from the person you had blocked.
  3. Once the text is open, tap the blank person icon at the top of the screen. This opens the contact information for them.

  4. on the upper right side is the “info” icon. Tap that.

  5. You’ll see a list of options. Near the bottom is “unblock this caller.” Tap unblock.

Other ways to access blocked contacts

Besides settings, iPhone apps or texts, you can open your contact list through your voicemail, if they left you one, or through your recent call list. However you’re able to access their contact information, you can usually unblock them through it.

How to unblock contacts on your iPad

Your iPhone may not be the only apple device you want to manage in terms of blocked numbers. Though most don’t make typical phone calls on their iPad, plenty of people use it for messages or FaceTime. Blocking and unblocking is similar with this device as it is if you were using your iPhone. Here are some steps:

Unblocking through messages

  1. Go to your messages app and tap the name or contact number at the top.
  2. Tap the info button and scroll down. You can then tap the unblock option to allow them to send you messages again.

Unblocking through settings

  1. To find and adjust your blocked list go to your settings app.
  2. Scroll to find the Messages icon, or you can even find that from your apple home screen.
  3. Scroll down to find and tap “blocked contacts.” This is handy if you have multiple contacts that you blocked and want to review. At this point, you should be able to swipe left on a number to open the “unblock” option.

Unblock through FaceTime

Another way to unblock a phone number is through FaceTime.

  1. Go to your FaceTime app, either through settings or your main screen
  2. In your FaceTime call history find the “i” next to the number and tap it to access the information of the person you blocked.
  3. Scroll down and tap “unblock this caller.”

How to tell if you’ve been blocked on iPhone

Finding out if you’re a blocked number on someone’s contact list isn’t cut and dry, but there are tips that might help you sleuth out an answer.

  • If you send a text and get a “read” receipt beneath your text, you’re not blocked. If you don’t see one, they may have this option disabled on their iPhone, so don’t fret yet.
  • Automated text responses such as “Driving Focus,” or “Do Not Disturb Mode,” indicate your phone number hasn’t been blocked. These auto responses don’t get sent to blocked contacts.
  • If you call and the phone barely rings before going straight to voicemail you may have been blocked. That said, it’s possible they’re on the phone or have Do Not Disturb on, so don’t despair yet. Lastly, when you want to know if someone has been blocking you, you can look into their social media page to see if you’re blocked on their Facebook page or Instagram. If so, you’re likely on their blocked callers list. Still, you never know.
