How to play Kingdom Come: Deliverance on Linux

Kingdom Come: Deliverance is a role-playing game that takes place during the Holy Roman Empire. The player assumes the role of Henry, as he goes from a peasant to a great knight. K.C.D is well-known for its ultra-realistic combat that takes hours to master. In this guide, we’ll go over how to get it working on Linux.

Method 1 – Steam Play/Proton

To get Kingdom Come: Deliverance working with Steam Play, you must purchase the game. To do that, ensure you have the latest version of Steam for Linux installed, and log in. Then, locate the “Store” button and click on it to access the Steam Storefront.

On the Steam Storefront, find the search box, and click on it with the mouse. Then, type out “Kingdom Come: Deliverance,” and press the Enter key to search.

In the search results, click on “Kingdom Come: Deliverance,” to go to the store page. Then, purchase the game.

After purchasing the game, it will be added to your Steam game collection. From here, the installation can begin. Follow the steps below to get KCD working with Steam Play.

Step 1: Steam Play must be enabled to install KCD on Linux, as it is not a native Linux game. To enable Steam Play, open up “Settings,” locate “Steam Play,” and check the box to enable it. Be sure to enable it for all titles, as this is required to set up

Step 2: After enabling the Steam Play feature, locate the “Library” button in the Steam UI, and click on it with the mouse to access your game library.

Step 3: Look through your Steam Library for Kingdom Come: Deliverance, and click on it with the mouse. If you cannot find the game in your Steam Library, click on the search box and type in “Kingdom Come: Deliverance.”

Step 4: Locate the “Install” button, and click on it with the mouse to install the video game onto your Linux PC. Keep in mind that the installation of KCD may take a bit of time, so be patient.

Step 5: When Kingdom Come: Deliverance has finished downloading and installing through Steam, right-click on it in the Library tab, and select “Properties.”

Step 6: In the “Properties” area, locate the “SET LAUNCH OPTIONS…” button, and click it to access launch options for KCD.

Step 7: Inside the launch options box, paste the code below. This code will force Proton to use D9VK, which will take care of most of the framerate issues known to appear when playing.

Step 8: Close the “Properties” window. Then, locate the “Play” button to start up the game.

After clicking the “Play” button, Steam will use the Steam Play utility to set up the game, so it runs on your system. When the setup utility is complete, you’ll be ready to enjoy Kingdom Come: Deliverance!

Method 2 – Wine

The Steam Play method of getting Kingdom Come: Deliverance working is the best way to go in most cases. However, if you do not like using Steam, you can get the game working with Wine.

Getting KCD working within Wine requires purchasing the game from Gog.com. Click on this link to go to the purchase page. Keep in mind that to buy a game from Good Old Games, you must create an account.

After purchasing a copy of Kingdom Come: Deliverance, click on your username on the page, and select “Games” to access your game library. Then, locate Kingdom Come: Deliverance, and select “Download offline backup game installers” to download the game to your computer. DO NOT SELECT GOG GALAXY!

Once the game has been downloaded, you must install Wine to your Linux PC. Installing Wine is a simple process, as most Linux distributions ship it in their software repositories.

To install Wine, open up a terminal window, search for “wine” and install it. Alternatively, if you are unfamiliar with how to set up Wine, click here to follow our guide on how to set up Wine.

When Wine is installed, open up the Linux file manager, and click on the “Downloads” folder. Locate the Kingdom Come: Deliverance EXE file, and right-click on it. Find the “Open with” menu option, and choose  “Wine”  to run the installer with Wine.

Go through the GOG installer to get the game running on your Linux PC. When it is complete, you’ll be ready to enjoy Kingdome Come: Deliverance on Linux!
