gFile Is A Simple Android File Manager With A Gmail-Inspired Interface

Managing files on your Android device can be a pain if you don’t have the right tool. Fortunately, the file management category of Play Store is filled with some awesome names – such as Solid Explorer, ES File Explorer and Astro File Manager – that make this tasks fairly easy. Enter gFile, a free app designed to make file management even simpler thanks to its bare-bones design. It’s quite clear that gFile is not designed with power users in mind. It’s probably for the traditionalists among us who just need to quickly get to their files and folders without dealing with any complex settings on the way. But that doesn’t mean gFile doesn’t offer advanced features. Read on for details.

The flat design of gFile is reminiscent of the official Gmail app for Android. Each folder is color coded and stamped with the first letter of its name. The free version of gFile only gives you access to user-accessible storage. To get root access, you’ll have to purchase the in-app Pro upgrade.

gFile also displays permissions pertaining to each item to the right. To modify these permissions, simply tap and hold down on your desired item, hit menu, and then tap Permissions.

When a file is selected, gFile gives you basic copy, paste, selection, rename and cut options at the top. The ‘+’ button located at the top-right lets you create new folders. Other than that, you can also switch between light and dark background themes from the Settings screen.

The same screen also allow you to upgrade to the Pro variant of gFile that, other than the aforementioned root access feature, adds file search, image thumbnails, the option to specify the default directory when the app is launched, and more.

While I wouldn’t call gFile one of the best in the business, it’s a great, elegant-looking file management alternative for users who only want the essentials.
