The Olympic Club in San Francisco, California, is set to host the 2012 U.S. Open Golf Championship beginning today, and Android users across the globe couldn’t have asked for a better time to get their hands on the tournament’s official app. Now available in the Google Play Store for Android devices running Froyo or higher, the U.S. Open Golf Championship app will be bringing you all the latest stuff from the much-awaited golf event right on your mobile device. Apart from the live scores, latest news, exclusive photos and videos, player biographies, event-related Tweets and schedules, the app also features a dedicated segment for live radio broadcast (powered by American Express). In addition, it packs extensive course details, along with flyover videos, and brings to the fans live video coverage of the tournament, complete with marquee groups, dedicated hole coverage and on-demand highlights, all available for streaming over 3G/Wi-Fi connection. Details to follow.
The iOS variant of U.S Open Golf Championship received its share of update a while back, whereas the Android version has just been updated to include goodies exclusive to this year’s tournament. Not only does the app sport plenty of informative and updated content, it has also been made quite interactive with the inclusion of live ESPN Radio coverage. What’s even better is that it lets listeners submit their questions regarding any aspect of the game, which will be answered during the tournament by ESPN’s expert commentary panel.
Users based anywhere outside of the U.S. are currently out of luck in terms of live video broadcast. However, those within the States can enjoy high quality video coverage of the tournament, request video highlights, enjoy live marquee groups and relish the opportunity to view the dedicated hole coverage from the golf course.
The fun doesn’t just end here, as the app’s segment dedicated to the course details is equally informative and enjoyable, too. Once you enter this particular segment, you’ll be able to check out the bird’s eye view of all the 18 holes available on course, complete with their respective Par values as well as yardage. Better yet, the flyover video clip of the selected hole lets you enjoy an aerial view along with the audio description.
All other segments of the app can be accessed easily from the dashboard, and needless to say, certain features – live scores, radio broadcast et al – will be available only once the event starts. So, whether you want to be a part of the live action through audio and/or video, need to keep a close tab on the event’s latest news, or just want to enjoy the interactive multimedia content included within the package, the app has you covered.
