Best Upcoming PS5 Games in 2024

PlayStation has had some truly stellar games through the years. Everything from major releases like Star Wars Jedi Survivor, Spider-Man, or Resident Evil, to third-party titles like the many Call of Duty offerings available across platforms and gaming hardware. In 2024, there are several additions to look forward to. There are fighting games, like Tekken 8, Lucasfilm Games in the Star Wars universe, and plenty of first-person shooters.

With so many to choose from, we’ll cover the best upcoming PS5 games that caught our eye, along with some honorable mentions. It looks like 2024 will be a great year ahead for gaming.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth

Final Fantasy Rebirth

Perhaps the most anticipated on this list, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is one of the biggest games released this year. The long-awaited sequel to the first installment of the Final Fantasy remake project, Rebirth is particularly exciting because players have no idea what to expect.

In the first half of the Final Fantasy remake that came out in 2020, the writers turned the plot on its head, changing major events from the original 1997 game. Rebirth will likely have an original story that forges its path as a complete remake. For that reason, the developers say the game stands on its own. There is no need to have played the original FF7 or even the first game in the remake project. This could draw in new fans who might be overwhelmed by the complexity of the original game. Either way, not knowing what to expect is exciting for everyone, both new fans and old.

Dragon’s Dogma 2

Dragon’s Dogma game

One of the more obscure upcoming PS5 games, Dragon’s Dogma, has quite a cult following. The first game was released back in 2012, so fans are particularly excited to see Capcom’s upcoming sequel.

Players find themselves on an epic journey as they delve into this action RPG that gives them customizable options, including vocations, the particular members of their party, and even their appearance. If you enjoyed the immersive fantasy experience of Baldur’s Gate 3, (winner of the game awards), you’ll probably find yourself drawn to Dragon’s Dogma as well. It will be available on PS5, Xbox series, and Steam.

The Casting of Frank Stone

Frank Stone game

Set in the incredibly popular world of Dead by Daylight, this survival horror game tells the unsettling story of Cedar Hills and the violent history of Frank Jones. Touting cinematic storytelling, a rich and expanded world, and choices that affect the outcome of the game, players are in for an exciting and stressful adventure.

Created in collaboration with Supermassive Games (creators of Until Dawn and The Quarry), Frank Stone has the potential to not only be a narrative-driven adventure, but a terrifying one at that. Expect violence, gore, and a lot of stress. Available on most modern consoles, like PS5 and Xbox series.

Rise of the Ronin

Rise of the Ronin game

This open-world action game is set in 19th-century Japan and is similar to titles like Nioh and Ghost of Tsushima. In terms of multiplayer, you can play with up to three friends online, though there is no option for couch co-op. A PS5 exclusive, this title is part hack-and-slash and part third-person shooter. You get the experience of fighting with traditional Japanese weapons, like the katana, but also period-authentic firearms. It’s visually stunning, with gorgeous landscapes and stimulating combat. If you miss incredible games like Ghost of Tsushima or Sekiro, this will scratch that itch.

Release Date: 3/21/24

Metal Gear Solid Snake Eater

Metal Gear remake

The Metal Gear games have a massive fan base, so it’s no surprise that the Snake Eater remaster already has gamers eager to learn more about this upcoming PS5 title. As of this writing, there is no official release date yet, but the hope is that it will come out sometime this year and it will be available on the Xbox series and Steam as well.

Snake Eater was a wise choice of all the Metal Gear games to refresh. Taking place in the 1960s, this origin story of the military operative, Snake, is set against the backdrop of the Cold War and all the political drama that entails. Players can expect the famous CQC (close-quarters combat), stealth, camouflage, and plenty of gunplay. The graphics in the reveal trailer are absolutely gorgeous, and it should be a great way to create the next generation of Metal Gear fans. Shockingly, Konami isn’t recording new dialogue for the game, instead reusing original recordings, giving old-school fans nostalgia to hang onto. We’re likely to see future games remade from the franchise too.

Silent Hill 2 Remake

Silent Hill 2 remake

2024 is a big year for remakes. Silent Hill 2 is the one I’m looking forward to most. That said, I’m a tad worried they’ll mess it up. The original release of this influential survival horror is so powerful and terrifying that it holds up even now. It delves into gritty, uncomfortable, and brutally honest subject matter that leaves you reeling.

The story is that of James Sunderland, who arrives in the strange town of Silent Hill because of a letter written by his wife, despite the fact that she died three years previously. Looking for answers, he’s thrust into a world of horrific monsters, twisted and nightmarish creatures, and the psychological trauma of one’s inner demons.

This is one of the upcoming PS5 games that has the potential to be something special. Last year’s Dead Space remake ended up being one of the best games I’ve ever played. I just hope Silent Hill turns out as well crafted.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League

Harley Quinn

This action-packed, third-person shooter will be available soon if it isn’t out already at the time this article is published. So what makes it worth mentioning? Besides the hugely popular Batman and Suicide Squad franchise, it’s a fun chance to play an antihero, embracing chaos and mayhem while still being within the world of the beloved Batman: Arkham series.

Favorite characters like Harley Quinn or King Shark are available to play, even as you find yourself immersed in the world of classic heroes in the Justice League, like Batman, Superman, and the Flash. On that note, Suicide Squad is particularly special as it is Kevin Conroy’s last time voicing his iconic Batman before he sadly passed away. He was the voice of Batman for decades, personifying the character in a way that has been unmatched since. That alone is reason enough for me to play it.

Bloomtown: A Different Story

Bloomtown game

This JRPG (Japanese role-playing game) combines monster-taming, turn-based combat, and exploration into one surprisingly cozy world. Set in a small American town in the 1960s, 12-year-old, Emily, and her brother, Chester, are spending their summer with their grandfather. When local children start to disappear, you find that a demon world is growing nearby and you must fight to save the town.

Part charming aesthetic, part turn-based action game, Bloomtown is a unique offering that will be available on PS5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox series, and even PC

Honorable Mentions for Upcoming PS5 Games

Pacific Drive game

While projects like the Star Wars: Knights of the Republic remake seem to be in limbo, there are still plenty of confirmed releases this year. Meanwhile, it’s frustrating when a games publisher, like Team Cherry, drags their feet on eagerly anticipated designs like Hollow Knight: Silksong. The next Mass Effect game is also farther out than fans want and it will be a while before Insomniac Games has a new Marvel title.

Fortunately, there is plenty to keep players busy, as you can see by these upcoming PS5 games and their release dates:
