How to Get More Rocks in Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Stones, gold nuggets, iron, and clay are some of the handy items you can get from hitting a rock in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Given the number of things you can craft by having these earthly materials at your disposal, it’s only normal to wish you could have more of their sources on your island.

The sources in question are the rocks littered about your island; sadly, you can only get a maximum of six on your island. If you wouldn’t mind a little bit of adventure, this guide on how to more rocks in Animal Crossing: New Horizons will help you.

Read on below to find out.

Getting More Rocks to Mine

As suggested earlier, you can only get a maximum of six rocks on your island. And even if you don’t have up to that, a new rock will spawn in random locations every day on your island, until the limit is reached.

You can get the much-needed earthly materials such as stones and clay from these rocks. However, you can only hit each rock eight times per day, regardless of the tool you’re hitting it with, be it a shovel or an axe.

When you’ve hit all the rocks on your island without getting all you need, your best bet is to look for more rocks on other islands, mine them, and bring the items from them back home — your island. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to go about it:

How to Get More Rocks in Animal Crossing New Horizons

  • Visit the Resident Services building on your island and go to the Terminal
  • Purchase a Nook Miles Ticket for 2,000 Nook Miles. If you don’t have enough, you can acquire more by completing daily tasks on your island
  • Next, go to your island’s Airport
  • Go to the desk and initiate a conversation with Orville
  • Choose the Use Nook Miles Ticket option
  • You’ll be directed to Wilbur, the pilot who will fly you to a random island

Once you’ve flown to a random island, you’ll be able to hit the rocks on the island and collect the earthly items that fall off them. Knock on wood on getting a golden nugget.

Tips for Hitting Rocks

  • You need to hit in quick succession to get the eight maximum successfully
  • Don’t eat fruits before hitting a rock, as doing so will empower you to destroy the rock after a few hits
  • Dig two holes behind you with a shovel to prevent a knockback when hitting a rock
  • When hitting rocks on a random island, ensure you collect all the droppings you need and can carry at once. You’ll not be able to return to the island once you leave

Final Notes

And that’s how to get more rocks in Animal Crossing: New Horizons; you did it! Now, if you ever run out of rocks to hit on your island, you can always go to a random one for more earthly droppings. Although it costs some Nook Miles Tickets to get to these islands, it’s pretty much a rewarding investment, never mind that you can get back the Nook Miles spent by completing daily tasks.
