Why Kodi Users Benefit From Using A VPN

Just before we get to the details of the karaoke add-ons, we should first discuss an issue of security. We’re going to be installing add-ons for Kodi, which is a simple process but one which you need to be careful with. The add-ons below all pull their videos from free and publicly accessible sources like YouTube, so they are totally legal to use. However, some other add-ons that you might come across can be used for purposes like streaming music, movies, or other copyrighted content illegally. These illegal add-ons are not marked as such and you could use one without realising it.

The problem is that if you are caught streaming or downloading copyrighted content through an add-on, you could face a range of consequences from getting kicked off your ISP, to facing a fine or prosecution. If you are going to use add-ons for Kodi, we recommend that you get a VPN to prevent this from happening. A VPN protects you by encrypting all of the data that your device sends over the internet, so that no one – not even your ISP – can see if you are streaming or downloading. This is the best way to keep yourself safe when using Kodi add-ons.

The Best VPN Service for Kodi – IPVanish

For Kodi users, the VPN that we recommend is IPVanish. It offers lightning fast connections which are perfect for streaming video, plus excellent security with strong 256-bit encryption and a no logging policy to keep your data safe. The large server network covers 850 servers in 60 different countries, and the software is available for Windows, Mac OS, Android, Linux, iOS, and Windows Phone.

IPVanish offers a 7-day money back guarantee which means you have a week to test it risk-free. Please note that Addictive Tips readers can save a massive 60% here on the IPVanish annual plan, taking the monthly price down to only $4.87/mo.

Add-on #1 – FTG Karaoke

FTG Karaoke is an add-on from the Fire TV Guru group, which makes a popular build wizard as well as coding some of their own add-ons too. FTG Karaoke is easy to use, and has a large catalogue of songs as it pulls its videos from YouTube. So pretty much any song that you can find on YouTube, you can find in this add-on. It’s simple to navigate the add-on, and there’s also a handy favourites feature so that you can save the songs that you enjoy singing most for quick access later.

One issue with this add-on is that because it pulls videos from YouTube, some of the videos it finds will be of low quality. And you have to make sure you find a version of the video marked ‘karaoke version’ for the best experience. But overall the add-on is an easy way to find songs to sing along to.

Add-on #2 – Kodi Karaoke Lite

One of the most popular add-ons for singing karaoke in Kodi is Kodi Karaoke Lite. This is a fork of what used to be the popular Mikey’s Karaoke add-on, which no longer works. But Kodi Karaoke Lite is a great replacement and works very well. The advantage of this add-on is that it has a massive library of basically every song you can imagine, as it pulls videos from a variety of sources including YouTube. This means that you can always find a video for the song you want, even if it’s a less well known or more obscure song.

The downside of this add-on is related to the large size of the song video library: not all videos are of the best quality. Sometimes, searching for a track will pull up lyrics videos rather than karaoke videos – these are videos with the lyrics appearing on screen with the song, but the vocal track still playing along. A proper karaoke video should have the vocal track removed. However, this isn’t the biggest problem, and it can even be helpful if you’re a casual or nervous karaoke singer. It’s much easier to sing along with a pre-recorded vocal track than it is to sing all on your own!

Add-on #3 – Okie’s Karaoke

Even if you’re a big karaoke fan and a frequent Kodi user, you might not have heard of Okie’s Karaoke. It is one of the smaller karaoke add-ons for Kodi and is not super well known. However, it is still worth a look if you want a high quality karaoke add-on. The biggest disadvantage of this add-on is that it does not have a search function, so you can’t quickly find a particular song that you are looking for. Instead, you have the browse through the categories which are provided. However, these categories are very well organised into fun themes like ‘Girl Power’ or ‘Party Starters’ so you can see a whole list of songs that are available to sing. Sometimes this is actually better than racking your brain trying to think of what to sing next!

The other great feature about this add-on is that the videos are very high quality, from the Sing King Karaoke source. This means that the lyrics are always accurate, the videos are high definition, and you’ll always get a vocal-less track. Unlike some of the other add-ons, which pull videos from YouTube and therefore have sometimes patchy results in terms of quality. If you want a top quality karaoke experience and you don’t mind browsing for songs rather than searching for them, then Okie’s Karaoke is an add-on that you definitely need to try.

Conclusion

If you fancy a fun karaoke night at home, then you can easily use your Kodi system as a home made karaoke system. With any of the three karaoke add-ons we’ve mentioned, you can sing along to a range of songs from genres like pop, rock, and classics. The atmosphere might not be as fun as a karaoke bar – but at least if you’re terrible you’ll only be subjecting your friends to your voice and not an entire bar’s worth of people!

Of the three add-ons we mentioned in this article, Kodi Karaoke Lite is probably the most popular, with the most users. It has several ways to browse for tunes to sing, from most popular and latest categories to organising by artist, track, or genre. If you want just one add-on for karaoke, this is a great choice. The FTG Karaoke add-on is very similar, also with categories for popular and latest tunes, plus searching by artist, track, and genre. This one has the option of a favourites system too, which makes it handy for frequent karaoke singers. Finally, there is Okie’s Karaoke, which is a smaller and less well known add-on. This one doesn’t have an option to search for a song, which is a disadvantage. However, it does have categories containing collections of classic songs which make great karaoke choices. The videos in Okie’s Karaoke tend to be high quality and extremely well made, so if you don’t mind a smaller selection of songs and want the highest quality experience, then this is the add-on you should try.

Which is your favourite karaoke add-on for Kodi? Do you use one of the add-ons that we’ve suggested, or is there another add-on which we’ve overlooked and which you love? Then let us know about it in the comments below!
