When Apple released iOS 5, there were a few differences between the versions of iOS that came out for iPhone and iPad. One small, but rather annoying, omission suffered by the iPad 2 is the lock screen camera button. Users of iPhone and iPod touch can launch the camera app straight from their lock screen by tapping the button present next to the slider. In iPad 2, you just get the slideshow button in its place, and there is no way of launching the camera when you are in a hurry. That’s what CamSlideshow is for, and using this new Cydia tweak, you will be able to launch the camera with a single touch on your jailbroken iPad.
The tweak is available in the Big Boss repo, and you can download it for free by heading to the Cydia store. You will not see any visible change in your iPad’s Springboard or Settings app after the installation of CamSlideshow. Even the button displayed next to the slider shows the slideshow icon, but don’t be fooled, the slideshow button is now reprogrammed to start up the camera every time you touch it. To bring up the button for the first time, double tap the home button.
It would have been more impressive if the button displayed the camera icon instead of the Photos one, as on the surface, the tweak can be a bit deceptive. However, there is no denying the fact that the functionality offered by CamSlideshow is very useful, and it doesn’t hurt at all that the tweak is available for free in the Cydia store.
