How To Install Latest xRecovery to Sony Ericsson Xperia X10

Xperia X10 xRecoveryxRecovery is a custom Android recovery system for all variants of the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10, including Xperia X10, Xperia X10 Mini, Xperia X10 Mini Pro and Xperia X10 HD. If you own one of these Xperia series devices and want to take it to the next level by being able to flash custom ROMs, take and restore full backups, manage partitions and wipe not just data but cache and Dalvik cache as well, read on for the instructions.

xRecovery is based on and very similar in functionality to ClockworkMod recovery but is meant for the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 series devices on which ClockworkMod recovery can’t be installed. To get an idea of all that you can do from this recovery, see our coverage of ClockworkMod recovery.

Requirements:

  • Rooted Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 series device. See our Android rooting guide to root yours.
  • Busybox installed. You can install the latest version from Android Market here.
  • (https://addictivetips.com/app/uploads/2011/02/xRecovery-0.3-release.apk) xRecovery v0.3 Installer App.

Xperia X10 xRecovery InstallerProcedure:

  1. Download the xRecovery installer app to your computer and transfer it to your phone by connecting your phone to your PC via USB, mounting the SD card and copying the downloaded file to it.
  2. Browse to the SD card using a file manager and tap on it to launch it.
  3. Once it launches, simply tap ‘Install xRecovery’ and follow any on-screen instructions that you get.
  4. Reboot your phone once the process has finished, in case it doesn’t reboot automatically.

You should now have xRecovery installed on your device. To boot into it, just press the back button a few times immediately after you see the white Sony Ericsson logo on the screen upon reboot. Once in xRecovery, use the volume buttons to navigate the options, the ‘Home’ button to select and the back button to go back to the previous menu at any stage.

  1. All of you who are having trouble accessing the xRecovery menu, I have an Xperia x10 mini pro U20i and you will need to press the power button at the top several times once you see the Sony Ericsson white logo after switching on your phone.

    Hope this helps 🙂

  4. hey i did everything as mentioned in this blog , but still i am not able to move into xrecovery menu. please help

  5. I finally got to work. You must have read and write permission on your root drive of the phone. To do this, download Root Explorer for rooted phones (found in the market). It will allow you to change the attributes permissions from read only to read write. Do this for the Root directory and the system rootsystem directory, then run the xrecovery again. You should get  all check marks on the 3 items it list under the install button. If you get any red marks or x’s you do not have read/write permissions set yet. I have a sony xperita x10a with the 2.1 update1 android on it currently, Doing all this to put a different upgrade firmware on it. My phone is rooted already. Hope this helps.

  14. You have no idea how annoying it is for me when I “try” and follow your advice on “how to root” (and more specifically install ‘xRecovery’). And although you – generic term – may be coining it, you have a really crappy support service, in my humble opinion

    Xperia X10i 2.1 Update1

  15. Excellent! I love wasting my time – what’s the point in having a web-site, specifically with an sway to resolve problems associated with mobile telecommunications and ever-developing and reinventing technology, and all you can do is sit back and watch?

Wow – glad I don’t run my busines (service industry orientated) the way you run yours: “OK people, the floors all yours, ’cause we haven’t got a clue, nor do we really care!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”

    Drives mad!
