Official Marvel Comics App Hits Android Market

Good news, Marvel fans! The official Marvel Comics client has finally hit the Android Market. You might consider your self way too grownup for this app, but once you launch it on your Android device, it certainly drifts you to the time when Spiderman was still cool and you wished you met Captain America in person. The Marvel Comics App for Android is the official Marvel Comics production and features scores of comic books featuring some of the most popular and favorite characters.

Being fans of some Marvel Comic characters, we decided to take this app for a run in our Addictive Labs. The phone used for downloading the app from Market was Samsung Galaxy S. The main screen of Marvel Comics app is gridded with Featured, Just Added and Free categories with Featured one set as default. On this screen, you can see the featured comics. We believe that these comic titles displayed in Featured category will keep rotating and you might find other titles replacing the older ones every time you launch the app. The Just Added category of this app is dedicated to new comics that Marvel adds in the list. The Free category displays all free comic books that are available for download.

The app has a well designed structure, and it will be very rare that someone loses way while navigating through it. Each title comes with a thumbnail and a price tag [if applicable] and all you have to do is tap on the title and complete download. On the download page of an issue, you get complete issue details, series summary and the option to buy in print. There is also a share button that lets you share your choice via Gmail, Google+, Bluetooth or any other sharing apps installed on your phone.

Once you tap on the download button, you will be prompted to enter your marvel.com account credentials and once you fill them, downloading will commence. In case you don’t have a marvel.com account, you can register for one right from within the app.

We test-downloaded Castle: Richard Castle In Deadly Storm and the download process went pretty smooth while connected over a stable Wi-Fi connection. The downloaded comics can be accessed from My Comics section of the application. The comic reader integrated in this app seems to be based on the Guided View Technology found in the official DC Comics Android app. The app is available for free in the Android Market.

  1. Looks like Marvel comics are available on Comixology’s App now as well — much prefer to have all my comics in one app, instead of individual ones for each publisher. Especially since it looks like Marvel’s app is just a white label version of Comixology
