Unlock Jailbroken iPhone 3G iOS 4 With Ultrasnow 0.93

If you’ve got an iPhone 3G and have upgraded it to iOS 4, while jailbreaking the device has still been possible, you were out of luck so far when it comes to unlocking your phone. Luckily, that is no longer the case. The iPhone Dev Team has finally released Ultrasn0w 0.93 and with this tool, you can now unlock your jailbroken iPhone 3G running iOS 4 as well! We’ve got more details as well as the complete guide right here for you, so read on.

Carrier-locking of mobile phones to one particular service provider is just too restricting. While carriers do it to prevent you from switching to another one during your contract with them, there may be other valid reasons to do it too. At times, you might have run out of your talk time on your connection and might want to load a backup pre-paid SIM to use service. At other times, you may simply want to use another SIM to avail better rates in another state while travelling. And then there is international roaming; you may not want to pay hefty roaming charges when travelling abroad, when you can just insert a local SIM card into your phone and enjoy cheap local charges. These are some of the reasons why keeping a SIM-unlocked phone sucks even for those who want to stick to the same carrier primarily. And then there is always the case when you bought a used phone and need to unlock it to use with your carrier of choice.

So regardless of which of these is your reason, let’s get on with the unlocking part now. The method to unlock your phone with ultrasn0w is pretty simple and you will simply need to follow this guide to achieve the unlock.

If you are a T- Mobile subscriber, make sure to turn your 3G network off before installing Ultrasn0w 0.93.

  1. First, launch Cydia on your jailbroken iPhone 3G and navigate to “add source”.
  2. In the add source, type the following URL (without the quotation marks): “http://repo666.ultraSn0w.com”
  3. Now search for “ultrasn0w” using Cydia search and install by tapping “install” button located in the top-right corner of the screen.
  4. Let the installation complete and then you will have your iPhone 3G unlocked for any carrier SIM regardless of your geographical location.

Please note that this unlock is only applicable on jailbroken iPhone 3G for now. We are expecting a 3GS release soon but this ultrasn0w tool is not compatible with iPhone 3GS. This ultrasn0w 0.93 unlock tool is reported working for all baseband versions.

I successfully jailbroke my iPhone 3G but when I load cydia to unlock I keep getting an error message “error refreshing data. GPG error: http://repo666.com
“Error refreshing data. GPG error: http://repo666.ultrasnow.com

release: the following signatures were invalid: nodata1 nodata2

failed to fetch http://repo666.ultrasnow.com/./packackages.bz2 subprocess/bin/bzip2 returned an error code (2)

some index files failed to download, they have been ignored or old ones used instead”

Akay, I am getting the same error message as you. I believe that we entered the address wrong at the time. I think we entered http://repo666.ultrasnow.com, instead of http://repo666.ultrasn0w.com
We inputed o instead of 0. I don’t know how to reverse this.
      Can anyone help?

      • Ali

Yeah I just checked mine with the same error and sure enough i put in an ‘o’ not and ‘0’
        what a tit I am!

I had the same problem. I went to the “/etc/apt/sources.list.d” in my phone using iFile. I had 2 listings for repo666.ultrasnow.com and one for repo666.ultrasn0w.com. I deleted the 2 incorrect entries and the error did not return. I seemed to work for me. Hope this helps.

  • nathan

when i put my sim card, its been searching for the past 20 min…
    any solutions?

    • dzl

turn off and on the phone and it will pick up the sim card dzl

  • Okay so I just did everything correctly using my mobile broadband and when it said installed restart springboard the carrier information changed to ‘searching…’ and continued to do that so I went back into cydia and removed the package and as if by magic the phone was unlocked. I guess there must be an error with the package and installing it must disrupt the block. Anyway job done….
